How to install Legrand Rack PDU

Installing the Legrand Rack PDU Network Metered ZeroU is a straightforward process that emphasizes safety, proper airflow, and accurate metering. Begin by verifying electrical service availability and ensuring your data center rack environment meets local electrical codes and site requirements. Confirm that your rack has adequate clearance for cable management and that the rear of the rack allows for sufficient ventilation—critical for maintaining equipment temperatures within spec. The ZeroU design allows you to place the PDU in proximity to power sources without occupying valuable rack space, but plan cable routing to minimize tangling and obstruction of airflow.

Step 1: Mount the PDU in your rack or behind the rack chassis according to the manufacturer’s mounting guidance. Ensure the unit is securely fastened and that the outlets are oriented to provide convenient access to devices while keeping cords tidy and separated from cooling pathways.

Step 2: Connect the 208V power source to the L6-20P input cord. Use a circuit that can handle sustained loads up to 16A and verify that the circuit’s breaker rating aligns with the PDU’s electrical specifications. This helps prevent nuisance trips and ensures stable operation under peak IT load.

Step 3: Attach your IT devices to the appropriate C13 and C19 outlets. Plan outlet distribution to minimize cable strain and to balance loads across the outlets. Keep high-draw equipment spread across different outlets when possible to avoid single-outlet overloads and to maximize reliability for mission-critical gear.

Step 4: Connect the PDU to your network for remote monitoring. Use the Ethernet interface (or the available network path) to enable live data streaming to your monitoring platform, whether that’s a centralized data center system, a cloud-based dashboard, or a mobile device. Configure IP addressing, gateway, and DNS settings as needed to ensure stable access to the PDU’s data streams and alerting features.

Step 5: Configure the user interface and metering notifications. Use the built-in color LCD to verify basic operation and to calibrate initial readings. Access the PDU’s web interface or supported management software to set alert thresholds for voltage fluctuations, current spikes, and unusual energy usage. Create schedules for daily, weekly, or monthly reports and establish data export formats that align with your data analytics workflow. Regularly review load trends and adjust device placement, power plans, or cooling strategies to optimize efficiency and uptime.

Step 6: Test and validate. With everything connected, perform a controlled load test to observe real-time readings on the LCD and in your monitoring system. Confirm that alerts trigger as configured, that data is accurately captured, and that rear-area cabling remains organized and unobstructed. Document the setup for future audits and scale planning, and schedule periodic reviews to ensure continued alignment with IT growth and changing facility conditions.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: What is a Network Metered PDU? A Network Metered PDU provides built-in power metering and remote monitoring capabilities. It collects voltage, current, and energy data, delivering real-time visibility into how electricity is distributed to connected IT equipment. This enables proactive capacity planning, energy optimization, and improved uptime through timely alerts and reporting.
  • Q: What does ZeroU mean? A ZeroU PDU is designed to occupy zero rack units of vertical space, preserving valuable rack real estate while still delivering distribution power and metering. This makes it ideal for ultra-dense racks where front-facing space is needed for servers, storage, and networking gear.
  • Q: How many outlets does this PDU have and what types are they? A: The unit provides 18 outlets of type C13 and 2 outlets of type C19, offering flexible power distribution for a wide range of IT devices, from standard servers to higher-power line devices.
  • Q: How do I access metering data? A: Metering data is accessible through the PDU’s color LCD for local readings and via network connectivity for remote monitoring. Data can be viewed on compatible tablets, smartphones, or dedicated monitoring software, with options to export reports and configure alerts.
  • Q: Is installation complicated? A: Installation is straightforward for data centers and IT rooms with standard rack infrastructure. It involves mounting the PDU, connecting the 208V power input, wiring the outlets to devices, and configuring network access and alerting through the built-in interface or supported software. Always follow safety guidelines and local electrical codes.

Great Read!!! Great story!!!
Format: Kindle
The series is long, but Ms. Wolfhart does a fantastic job of weaving this tale while bringing so much to the characters. Surprises and plot twists along the way to keep you intrigued. There is some graphic sex, but is no way the focal point. Grammar was excellent (a rare find with a lot of self publishers) with only a few noted errors. I rarely give 4 stars, let alone 5.

Sadly, DNF
Format: Kindle
I read this thru KU. I LOVED the synopsis. And then I began reading... and it was a DNF at 68% after picking it up and putting it down several times because I really loved the main female character. *****SPOILERS***** Pros: The world is unique, intriguing and fun. The primary female character is bad-a** but not a b*tech or a mary sue. The primary female has depth. I really want to know what happens to her even tho it's been weeks and I don't remember her name. The villains to the point I read are pretty good -- an ever present threat of mysterious and possibly many culprits. Cons: Way, way too many points of view. I stopped counting at 7. It's the prime reason why I don't care about most of the characters or remember their names even when I like them. There's just too many points of view so almost none of the characters have enough book space for the author to properly develop them. This literally killed the book for me. Actually it killed my desire to read. For weeks. The main male is more villain than hero. He agreed to marry the main female then locks her up & eschews her for her sister, all while bad mouthing her as unfit to rule when he never spent any time with her getting to know her. He is actually unfit to rule as he is blind to the woes of his own kingdom and starts off a peace mission to secure a ceasefire through marriage by murdering an inn full of people in her country for no real reason. Plus, he constantly makes promises he does not keep. And it's gross of him to pine for the sister behind the main female's back. ***** As much as I really wanted to see what happened to the main female character, it wasn't enough for me to keep trying to slog thru this book. There was a lot of potential here that just fell short. Hence, 3 stars.

Fae Courts with High Intrigue
Format: Kindle
This book is one that just builds and builds and then surprises you to no end. You may think you know the villains and then you are jolted in another direction. Princess Reyna is a real gem, strong of character, a fierce fighter, and loyal to her family and kingdom. Just when you think she and Lorcan, well you know, the plot is flipped. Can't wait to see where this goes in book two.

Slow, sorry but good
Format: Kindle
This was a slow moving book. Lots of character pov chapters, lots of superfluous descriptions and endless courtly appearances stalled this book to start. Once you get into the heart of the story, it takes off. Before you know it the book is done. My favorite character is Reyna. She is so strong. She is true to herself. She gets into a lot of trouble with her headstrong ways but it's entertaining. I have high hopes for Lorcan. He is honorable to a fault. Thane had turned out to be better than I thought but i still don't like him. Eislin is useless. Great plot twists at the end. I'm looking forward too book 2.

Very detailed! Beautiful world building! Strong Heroine!
Format: Kindle
Starts off a little slow and confusing with different POV’s, but starts to all come together towards the middle to make an elaborate plot line and makes it all worth it. Beautiful world building and attention to detail as well as great writing. The cliffhanger was gut wrenching! Can’t wait for the next book!
