At its core, Swan Sting is an album about love. Love for self, love for others, and how that love affects us. To me, swans represent love, beauty, and change. They mate for life, they have beautiful feathers, and are former “ugly ducklings”. They also obviously don’t literally sting people, but the things they represent absolutely can. Some common themes in the album include stuff like heartbreak, yearning, body dysmorphia, the desire to change, and the grief of being unable to do so. I thought these themes pretty much matched the idea of a swan perfectly, so I got attached to the idea of turning this into a concept album.

This album is sort of the story of the last 3 very strange years of my life, and every song on the album is directly inspired by a personal experience I’ve had during it. They’re not necessarily grandiose or unique experiences, but I think that’s what makes them so compelling to me; the idea that I could write words and pronounce them in certain ways that will invoke the exact same emotions in others as they did in me is something I’ve obsessed over my whole life. I did my best to portray how I felt in these times, and I hope listening to Swan Sting lets you feel the same. What you do with the stories is up to you, but my hope is that these songs help you reflect on and process your own experiences, and see beauty in the irreplaceable person they shaped. - Lian/Tiger Really
