Background
FOXP3 protein is a crucial transcription factor that plays a central role in the development and function of regulatory T cells (Tregs), which are essential for maintaining immune tolerance and preventing autoimmune diseases. It is predominantly expressed in Tregs and helps suppress the activity of other immune cells, thereby preventing excessive immune responses. Mutations or dysfunction in the FOXP3 gene can lead to severe autoimmune disorders such as IPEX syndrome, highlighting its importance in immune regulation.
