The Sennheiser MKH 8070 is a long shotgun condenser microphone purpose-built for capturing distant sound sources with exceptional clarity and realism. Tailored for professional broadcasting and major sporting events, the MKH 8070 delivers a natural, uncolored sound that makes voices and important ambient cues intelligible even in challenging acoustic environments. Its design emphasizes extreme directivity and a pronounced lobar pickup pattern, enabling broadcasters to isolate the on-air subject from crowd noise, reverberation, and surrounding ambience. Built to withstand the rigors of field production, this microphone combines precision engineering with rugged construction, giving sound engineers a reliable tool for live coverage, studio integration, and mobile reporting. Whether you’re covering a stadium showdown, a championship match, or a major news broadcast, the MKH 8070 offers the confidence that your audio remains clean, intelligible, and richly detailed from a distance.

  • Extreme directivity and lobar pickup deliver precise far-field capture while suppressing off-axis noise for clean speech and natural sound at distance.
  • Natural, uncolored sound reproduction preserves vocal presence and ambient cues, ensuring broadcast-ready audio without aggressive EQ.
  • Rugged construction and field-proven reliability stand up to wind, vibration, and moisture in outdoor and busy studio settings.
  • Easy integration with standard audio gear thanks to a balanced XLR output and compatibility with most 48V phantom-powered preamps.
  • Designed for professional broadcast and sports production, the MKH 8070 excels in situations demanding maximum intelligibility from a distance.

How to install Sennheiser MKH 8070

To achieve the best results, mount the MKH 8070 on a sturdy stand or boom arm using a suitable shock mount to minimize handling and vibration noise. Connect the microphone to a mixer, audio interface, or recording device via a high-quality XLR cable. Enable phantom power on your preamp or mixer to power the condenser capsule. Position the microphone on-axis with the desired sound source and direct the long shotgun toward the area of interest to maximize its lobar pickup while avoiding extraneous noise from crowds or room reflections. For outdoor shoots or windy environments, add an appropriate windscreen or blimp and, if possible, a wind shield to further reduce wind rumble. Finally, perform a quick gain-staging check to ensure a clean signal with ample headroom and minimal proximity effect or distortion.

  • Mount on a rigid stand or boom with a shock mount to minimize handling noise.
  • Connect via a balanced XLR cable and supply 48V phantom power from your preamp or mixer.
  • Align the mic on-axis with the sound source to maximize lobar pickup and natural balance.
  • Use wind protection in outdoor environments to reduce wind noise and plosives.
  • Test and adjust gain for clear, distortion-free levels with appropriate headroom.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: What makes the MKH 8070 different from other shotgun mics? A: It combines an exceptionally narrow directivity with a lobar pickup pattern, enabling outstanding isolation of distant speech while preserving a natural overall sound, ideal for broadcast and sports coverage.
  • Q: Is phantom power required for the MKH 8070? A: Yes. As a condenser microphone, it requires phantom power (typically 48V) supplied by the mixer or preamp.
  • Q: Can the MKH 8070 be used indoors as well as outdoors? A: Yes. It performs well in controlled studio environments and in the field, provided appropriate wind protection and mounting are used for outdoor scenarios.
  • Q: What kind of audio chain is best with the MKH 8070? A: A clean, low-noise preamp with a balanced XLR path, followed by a suitable recorder or mixer that can handle phantom-powered condensers and provide adequate gain without introducing noise.
  • Q: Which venues benefit most from the MKH 8070? A: Large studios, broadcast trucks, stadium press areas, and any event where the microphone must capture distant dialogue with minimal leakage from crowd noise.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

Good start to a series
Format: Kindle
I delayed reading the series for reasons I don’t remember. But my TBR list is huge so I thought I’d take a shot of this and I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t think the blurb about it was anything special. But it was a very good book. It took some interesting twists and turns. I am so glad the second book is already out. Because I would not have waited patiently. Very slow burn but good storyline. 🔥🔥/5

A good read
Format: Kindle
Multiple points of view. 3 Alpha men and an Omega male. She is a Beta in training for a new program placing betas in Alpha/Omega packs. Mila is only doing the program for the money to take care of her dad. She wasn't expecting to fall for a pack but when she sees this packs Omega she is done for. There is just something about him. His Alphas are good looking as well. Too bad she is hiding a secret and their government is acting shady. I liked it and can't wait to see where their story goes.

Slightly repetitive but I did love some things
Format: Kindle
I love this type of story. And omegaverse is one of my all time favorite genres. But there are a few things that pulled me out of my enjoyment while I was reading. It was repetitive at times as well as struggled with telling not showing. So we didn’t always feel like we were experiencing things with the main character. There were also some plot holes but they may still be answered in part 2. Now this isn’t to be said I didn’t enjoy parts of the story. I loved the almost instant love between Mila and Oliver. And how he started changing around her.
