A career highlight was winning the Jimmy Watson Trophy in 2013 for the 2012 Yabby Lake Block 1 Pinot Noir, the first ever awarded to a Pinot Noir. Since 2008, he has led the Kirby Family Vineyards (Yabby Lake and Heathcote Estate) as General Manager and Chief Winemaker, while also judging at major wine shows.
Serrat reflects their combined expertise and passion, producing small-batch, estate-grown wines of precision and character. The Serrat vineyard was established in 2001, planted at an exceptional density of 8,800 vines per hectare, over four times the Australian average with plantings of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Viognier, and a small amount of Grenache. Over the years, the vineyard has expanded thoughtfully, with additions of Nebbiolo, Barbera, Malbec, and Grenache Noir (2010). In 2016, Serrat became the first to plant Grenache Blanc in Victoria, followed by more Nebbiolo and Shiraz in 2017.
This wine is 100% from the Mendoza block of Chardonnay, which was planted in 2007. Natural barrel fermented with full solids in 500 and 600 litre French oak barrels and aged on lees for 11 months. Only addition to this wine is SO2.
Tasting Notes
"The bouquet is dominated by the darker cherry and a plummy hint coupled with red fruit spectrum, strawberry, raspberry, spice, cherry, with detailed fragrance and floral notes. The new clones are adding an extra level of extract and tannic concentration which is exciting, the palate is tightly wound but underneath a silky and voluminous mouthfeel. "Mendoza clone, whole-bunch pressed, natural-yeast fermented and matured in two seasoned 600L French oak barrels and two 500L barrels (one new). Bright green gold. There's a lot going on here from the very first whiff. Aromas of ripe stone fruits, orange blossom, oyster shell and praline lead onto an intense, structured and beautifully balanced palate. No problems drinking this now, but it's worth noting that this will age very well, too." 97 Points - Halliday Wine Companion, Philip Rich (2025).

quick set up

So far, 2 weeks, it was easy to fill, charged quickly, looks lovely, easy adjustment on the course to fine dial, great value, so far. and mush less clutter-y than the four different items I had to use to get both fine and course grands. Light weight and it appears to be built to last.

Beautiful, functional, easy on hands, push button

Update: these are great! I only charged them the day they arrived 3 months ago from Amazon, and have not had to charge them yet. They work efficiently every time my whole family loves using them,,especially the grandkids.
I specifically wanted "push button" , and easy-rechargeable. I have arthritis so it's pretty amazing and wonderful.
These rechargeable grinders are lightweight when they arrive, and easy to fill from the top.
For each grinder, you will need to turn the top opening slightly to the left to release it, and then pull it open.
My 9yo grandson had to show me.
The salt and pepper grindersmake a relatively, low grinding sound, and have a small, shining,light at the bottom where the salt and pepper come out onto the food. The performance is good, the salt and pepper output seems not too much and not too little.
Charging these grinders was extremely easy, and the little charging unit stand is provided with a C charger which you can connect into the back of the charging unit, and a USB connection on the other end for the wall .
