artist biography
Pehr Olof Ek was born May 22, 1919 in Nyköping. He was a Swedish painter, print maker and illustrator.

Ek studied at the Högre konstindustriella skolan in Stockholm from 1942 to 1945. He took study trips to England, France and Spain. 

He exhibited in solo shows at Galerie Æsthetica in Stockholm, and he participated in group exhibitions including in the National Museum in Stockholm exhibition Unga tecknare. 

Ek painted portraits and landscapes, the latter in a slightly cubist form. As an illustrator, he did work for a number of publications including Björn Hodell's Wärdshus börbi and Gunnar Brolund's Narren as well as several book covers. Examples of his work are held in collection of the Moderna Museet in Stockholm.

Ek played the role of Johansson in the satirical Swedish film Myglaren in 1966. The film was the first Swedish feature film made for TV. It attracted a lot of attention in 1966 when it premiered as a sharp modern social satire. It was shown six times on TV and reached a larger audience than any previous Swedish film.

Ek passed away in France in 1999.
