High-speed Autofocus

Sony have incorporated two XD (eXtreme dynamic) Linear Motors to drive a high-speed, precise autofocus and tracking operation, whilst also making full use of the AF performance in Sony E-mount bodies. New control algorithms make it possible to drive the large focus groups without delay for ultra-smooth autofocus. The quiet operation of the AF system is beneficial for capturing stills as well as recording movies with enhanced audio. Enjoy an instantaneous response when focusing manually as the focus ring features Linear Response MF, enabling the focus to respond linearly to focus ring rotation. Featuring a focus mode switch that allows for instant switching between auto and manual focus modes.

Shooting Capabilities

Get creative with the Sony 20mm lens, with a minimum focusing distance of 0.19m (AF) and 0.20 (AF) maximum magnification paired with the bright F1.8 aperture users can achieve excellent close-up shots – even in low light. The nine-blade circular aperture contributes towards creating a natural, smooth bokeh background and natural-looking highlights – delivering spectacular G Lens performance.

The lens accepts circular polarizing filters for landscapes, ND filters for movies, and other filter types for full creative control.

Efficient Handling

To ensure better handling, Sony have incorporated a variety of intuitive controls, including a customisable hold button that is conveniently placed for fingertip use. The button can be used for focus hold control and it can be assigned numerous functions from a menu accessed via the camera body. To benefit focusing, the Sony 20mm lens features an aperture ring switch that can turn click stops on/off - beneficial for seamless control when filming.

Combatting Ghosting and Flare

Featuring Sony’s original Nano AR Coating, this lens minimises ghosting and flare when working with bright light sources, such as backlighting. Sharpness, high contrast and clarity is maintained across the frame in a variety of conditions.

Weighing only 373g, the small and light lens is highly portable and mobile when used with an E-mount body. The front lens surface has a fluorine coating that repels dust, water, oil, and other contaminants, whilst also making it easy to clean if contaminants do become attached to the lens.
