The movie genre of crime stories "Italian style", later known as "Poliziottesco", was a mirror of what was actually happening in Italy during the 70s. Robberies, kidnappings, extortions and prostitution were common in those days... criminals were thriving and starting to get organized into gangs. These stories inspired filmmakers like Stelvio Massi, Enzo Castellari, Bruno Corbucci and others, true masters of the medium who managed to create realistic, Violent and sometimes extremely moving pictures even if often restricted by limited budgets. The "Poliziottesco" genre was interpreting a changing country and featured actors that later became true cinema icons thanks to the appreciation of the public (while they didn't receive the same kind of praise from the critics). The Soundtracks were assigned to great composers whose contribution to the genre helped them gain in fame and world wide recognition. Given this kind of background, "Italia Violenta" bears an important responsibility: To make people relive the fascination of the sounds and atmospheres of a period of Italian history that has never been forgotten and very often missed. Availalble in a special De-luxe box containing the CD and a set of collector's postcards with the original movie posters and details on the film (on the one side the card is in Italian and on the other in English). A must for all collectors!!! this is the first volume of a series which is composed of 3 volumes which will be released in the next few months. music by Piero Piccioni, Stelvio Cipriani, Enrico Simonetti, Riz Ortolani, Berto Pisano, I Fratelli de Angelis, Giampaolo Chiti, Franco Micalizzi, Gianni Ferrio, Luis Bacalov, Ennio Morricone for films starring Franco Nero, Tomas Milian, Franco Gasparri etc..

Go-Go and Buy this Book
This was the twelfth Simpsons Comics book I've read and, while it's not the best of the dozen, it is still a very funny book and a must for the Simpsons comics connoisseur (you got to love the cover art). Here's what you get: "Rhymes and Misdemeanors": Martin Prince is in love with Lisa and, when his love is unrequited, they both do battle in the form of poetry readings at a nightclub dissing each other. "The Great Springfield Frink-Out": A giant mishap occurs at the Frink labs (actually someone put tin foil in the microwave). This event causes everything to be topsy-turvy in Springfield, for example, Marge is the mayor, Homer is a mobster, Cecil is the celebrity clown, and Bart has ambitions to be as cool as Milhouse. "Tiger Teen": Fun mock mini mag in the style of those old 16 and Tiger Beat teen magazines of our youth. Of course, this one features Homer's barber shop group Be Sharps ("Homer Answers 40 Intimate Questions"-is that a perfect copy of those teen magazines or what?). There are also a few familiar names of 80s pop stars on the cover ("Cory Hart Takes off his Sunglasses-Exclusive photos!") "Burnsie on Board": Mr. Burns tries to live out his boyhood dream of being an Olympic skiing gold medalist by enlisting the help of Bart. "To Live and Diaper in Springfield": To pay for an expensive toilet paper dispenser Homer desires from an extravagant shopping network, Marge starts a daycare center. Her attention to other babies (particularly the one with the single eyebrow) causes Maggie to run away. "Fan-Tasty Island": Mr. Burns needs a rare toxin to get by the Coalition to Reduce Air Pollution. This toxin can only be found inside a wood carving on a remote island. The perfect cover-up is to send a family to find the treasure-the Simpsons, of course. Very funny comic, but the ending is a little far-fetched.

Not Quite Up to Simpsons Comics Standards, but Still Fun
Format: Paperback
Despite the cover, there is no western-related comic in this book (probably a good thing). This comic book is funny (it includes a comic book convention survival guide and a look at Lisa's dream house), but Matt Groening and company really raised the bar with some of their other comic books-hence the four star grade. "Krustonia"-Krusty starts his own utopian nation to avoid paying income taxes. Sounds like something he'd do. "Flanders' Big Score"-Fun-diddly-fun comic where amateur detective Ned Flanders investigates the case of the missing church fund-raiser money. "Let's Get Ready to Bumble"-Homer becomes a professional wrestler. Not as good as the other comics in this book. "Bringing Down Baby"-Short starring Maggie which also includes the infamous baby with the one eyebrow. Only mildly amusing. "Smitherses!"-The nuclear power plant employees are on strike for a 5 cent per year raise. True to form, Mr. Burns decides that the best solution is to clone a staff of devoted sycophants (i.e. Smitherses). When the Smitherses begin to compete for Mr. Burns' attention-Watch out! This is a funny, imaginative comic. "Bore Us the Movie Gruel"-Bart and company watch a 1950s film starring Troy McClure (how old is this guy?) and a mule. The usual sarcastic comments are offered. "Radioactive Homer"-A complicated comic. The gist of it is that Homer believes he is Radioactive Man and joins forces with Leon (insane asylum inmate "Michael Jackson" in the TV episode "Stark Raving Dad") to take down Mr. Burns' "Project Q" (mentioned in Simpsons Comics #1 in the Extravaganza book). Has a very funny ending.
