His nostalgic scenes evoke the sense of flicking through a sketchbook. A former student at the Florence Academy of Art, Sam prefers to work from studies rather than reference photography as it “keeps the worker looser and truer”.
Light is a focal point and evokes the atmosphere of each piece. He applies up to three layers of glaze to achieve a slightly mottled finish, giving his work an authentic feel.
