小耳朵系列期望從孩童的視角結合圖文，用小耳朵、短頸鹿、小猴子等小夥伴們的故事作引線，將你我生活中不知該如何向孩子解釋的困惑與體會，轉化成讓孩童能理解的概念，和孩子一起探索生命中的各種探問，或許它不是標準答案，但盼能為你與孩子搭起一座持續理解生命的橋樑。
本集創作源起
有一個夏天傍晚，我們在住家附近的公園旁看到一隻死掉的小老鼠。女兒很震驚，哭哭啼啼地擔心老鼠就那樣留在路上怎麼辦。為了安撫她悲傷的情緒，我們跟她說，老鼠的靈魂上了彩虹橋，身體已經不會痛，在彩虹上開心地生活了。留在地球上的身體雖然不能用了，不過我們只要記得小老鼠咻咻咻、自由飛快地在公園裡跑的樣子就好。
女兒還是不放心，最後決定畫了一張有彩虹的告別卡，貼在窗戶上送給小老鼠。那張卡片現在被移到衣櫃門上，女兒雖然堅持要保留著，但想起小老鼠時已不再傷心了。我們的狗狗貓貓們現在也在彩虹橋上無憂無慮的生活著，有一天時間到了，我們就會去接他們重聚一起。
真的有彩虹橋嗎？這個問題應該永遠不會有答案，但我們喜歡這個想法。「彩虹橋」彷彿成為面對摯愛離去或死亡時，慰藉情緒起伏的出口與力量。既然永遠無法證實，給自己一個會微笑的選擇，沒什麼不好。面對生命裡必然的離別，也希望每個爸爸媽媽和孩子都能找到專屬你們、想起來會感到安心溫暖的舒緩方式。
