Martin Jarrie is a French artist and illustrator based in Paris, France. One defining characteristic of Martin’s work is the subtle, layering of paint in each piece. Martin uses leftover paint from palettes before they dry, or the small amount of paint left in a tube and spreads it on paper before storing it away. It is these papers that he pulls from to start new work. The result is a rich canvas that, much like a visual palimpsest, hints at a hidden painting below.

This 1000 piece, 24” (61 cm) square puzzle, titled Boats, is a collage of small paintings depicting various vessels. From line drawings of rudimentary row boats, to large ocean liners with portholes and funnels, each section is its own miniature canvas with its own unique layered colour palette.

The difficulty level of this puzzle is low-medium. Each miniature painting has its own distinct colour palette making this puzzle a joy to assemble.
