This was the first of several drawings in my Bubble Series where scenes of the ocean and the creatures that call it home are constrained by bubble shapes. You can catch a glimpse through these bubble windows in to the water world. In this one I recalled taking several dives to just be still and hover and observe the marine life jam packed in one small area of the reef. Dozens and dozens of living creatures that were plant-like or fish like moved happily together in the water even in just a one by one square foot of the reef. I can see how macro photographers can spend so much time engrossed in focusing in one one particular creature on the reef because they absolutely stunning. There is so much life densely clustered on these reefs that we as divers should work to protect for a healthy ocean.
Description: This is a reproduction of a mixed media drawing on paper. I used soft pastels and watercolour paint to create the original, building texture on texture to try and capture the dense texture of a healthy reef.
Cool deep blues, reds, yellows and purples of swirling, reaching repeating textures in this drawing is for someone who appreciates the blanket of life of a reef presented with a touch of geometric in the clean circle shape containing the scene.
