Saint Charbel

He is known among Lebanese Christians as the "Miracle Monk of Lebanon". Saint Charbel has performed miracles to people that are sick, disabled, mentally ill and dying from various religions including Christians, Muslims, Buddhist, Hindus, Jewish, Druze, Alawites, Atheists to just name a few.  People never saw his face when he was alive. He always kept his head down in church, at work or when walking, always looking to the ground. He would lift his eyes only to heaven. That's why he is always depicted with his eyes closed.

His feast day is July 24.

Bloodstone Symbolism:

Bloodstone is a crystal rich with various meanings. From the colour of the setting sun to the blood of holy martyrs throughout history.

In the Christian tradition, bloodstone is said to have been created when the blood of Christ fell upon the green earth at his Crucifixion. The falling blood mixed with the earth below and created the bloodstone.

The bloodstone has long been renowned for its ability to remove barriers and cause harmony to prevail. the stone has come to symbolize sacrifice.

In pre-Christian times, the stone was known as heliotrope, the “sun stone.” The name is derived from the Greek helios for “sun” and the word trepein or “to attract.”

Helpful and interesting introduction
Format: Paperback
This is a good quick introduction. A good supplement to a course on modernist literature or art. What is important is that it shows the Modernist project as something that encompassed art, literature, psychology, science, and politics--in other words, it contextualizes the movement.

So glad I bought this!
Format: Paperback
I am a lit teacher at an independent school, and was able to use this book to link the literature and the art of the modern movement. My students loved this project - they made their own artwork for a display at school!
