NEW DOUBLE LP (ETCHED SIDE D)

New sealed copy. Indie record store exclusive limited edition. One LP on transparent red coloured vinyl, one LP on transparent blue coloured vinyl.

Gold & Grey is the fifth studio album by American heavy metal band Baroness, released on June 14, 2019, through the band’s own label, Abraxan Hymns. It marked the debut of guitarist and vocalist Gina Gleason and continued the group’s chromatic album series, serving as the sixth and final entry in the color-themed sequence that began with Red Album in 2007. Mastering was handled by Dave Fridmann, who had also produced their previous record, and whose work gave the album its dense, textured sound.

The record reflects Baroness at their most ambitious and experimental, blending progressive metal, sludge, and psychedelic rock influences into a sprawling, unpredictable collection of songs. Singles like “Borderlines,” “Seasons,” and “Throw Me an Anchor” showcased the band’s willingness to push beyond their earlier heaviness into more melodic and atmospheric territory, while still maintaining their signature intensity. The album’s artwork, created by frontman John Baizley, continues his nature-inspired visual narrative and serves as a deeply personal reflection on the band’s twelve-year journey, bringing their chromatic era to a close.

Upon release, Gold & Grey received universal acclaim, earning a 91/100 on Metacritic and ranking as one of the highest-rated albums of 2019. It debuted at number 39 on the Billboard 200, topping the Independent Albums chart and reaching number 2 on both the Hard Rock and Vinyl Albums charts, while also becoming the band’s highest-charting release in the United Kingdom. Critics widely praised the album’s adventurous spirit, emotional depth, and fearless reinvention, solidifying Gold & Grey as a career-defining moment for Baroness.

Guided tour through a difficult work
Format: Paperback
For the non-expert reader of Plato, this is a very good text for working through Timaeus. Actually, it may be useful to expert readers as well, but I wouldn't know about that, being firmly situated in the non-expert camp. Though some scholars may take exception to certain parts of Cornford's translation and interpretation, for those of us trying to get through it for the first time and on our own, this is still an exceptional guide. By the way, for an alternative translation and interpretation, the reader may want to check out Kalkavage's translation (Focus Philosophical Library), it is very good (I would rate it 5 stars also) and has some extremely helpful appendices for understanding references to music, astronomy, and geometry.

Cornford's Plato Cosmology/Timaeus
Format: Paperback
This is an excellent and invaluable reference book for Plato's Timaeus. If you are reading Timaeus you MUST have this book. It contains line-by-line commentary, and also, most valuable, some very helpful illustrations (example: illustration of the human body as Timaeus explained it). I would, however, balance this book with other books that attempt to place Timaeus within the rest of Plato's works. I recommend, for example, Peter Kalkavage's Timaeus. There, he attempts to link Timaeus and Republic.
