The Lenovo 1800W Redundant Power Supply is a high‑reliability, hot‑pluggable power solution designed to keep mission‑critical Lenovo servers running smoothly in demanding data center environments. Built for ThinkSystem and ThinkServer platforms, this plug‑in module delivers robust redundancy, seamless maintenance, and reliable power delivery even under heavy workloads. With dual redundant modules, hot‑swap capability, and a compact plug‑in form factor, it helps minimize downtime, maximize system availability, and lower total cost of ownership for enterprise IT environments.

  • Redundant, hot‑pluggable design: The Lenovo 1800W Redundant Power Supply is engineered as a dual‑module power path that provides failover protection. If one module requires maintenance or experiences a fault, the remaining module can continue to power the server, reducing the risk of unexpected downtime. The hot‑pluggable capability means replacement or maintenance can be performed with minimal disruption, aligning with enterprise IT best practices for high availability.
  • High‑capacity power for demanding workloads: With an 1800W power rating, this redundant power supply delivers ample headroom for CPU‑intensive applications, memory‑heavy virtualized environments, storage arrays, and PCIe expansion cards. This large capacity ensures stable performance during peak workloads, avoids power throttling, and supports future scalability within compatible Lenovo server chassis.
  • Plug‑in module for Lenovo ThinkSystem and ThinkServer platforms: Specifically designed to integrate with Lenovo server ecosystems, this power supply module complements Lenovo hardware design philosophy—streamlined serviceability, standardized interfaces, and coordinated management through Lenovo management tools. Its plug‑in form factor makes installation straightforward in supported chassis, enabling technicians to deploy redundancy quickly.
  • Energy efficiency and reliability enhancements: The 1800W redundant solution emphasizes efficient power conversion and thermal management to minimize heat generation and energy waste. A cooler, more efficient power supply reduces thermal load inside the server, helping to extend component life and maintain stable operation in data centers with dynamic workloads or limited cooling capacity.
  • Secure, standards‑aligned operation: Lenovo’s redundant power supply adheres to rigorous safety and electromagnetic compatibility standards, supporting reliable operation across diverse data center environments. This compliance helps IT teams meet governance and regulatory requirements while delivering dependable power delivery to critical workloads.

How to install Lenovo 1800W Redundant Power Supply

Installing the Lenovo 1800W Redundant Power Supply is designed to be straightforward, with serviceability treated as a core feature of Lenovo server design. Follow these general steps to install or replace a module in a supported chassis. Always refer to your specific server’s maintenance manual for precise instructions and any chassis‑specific cautions.

  • Prepare for installation: Ensure you have the correct replacement module for your server model and confirm that you are following a maintenance procedure approved for your environment. If possible, coordinate with your data center operations team to minimize impact on production workloads.
  • Power down or maintain safe conditions: For standard replacement procedures, power down the server or place it in a safe maintenance window as dictated by Lenovo guidelines. If the design allows hot‑swapping, verify your chassis supports this operation and proceed with caution.
  • Access the PSU bay: Remove the server cover or access panel to expose the power supply bays. Identify the faulty or replacement module slots and ensure there is adequate clearance for the power supply handles and connectors.
  • Remove the existing module (if replacing): If you are replacing a failed module, release any retention latch or handle, and carefully slide the module out of the bay. Disconnect any visibility connectors or cables only if required by your model and only when the power is safely disconnected.
  • Install the new module: Align the new 1800W redundant module with the bay and slide it firmly into the connector until it seats. Engage any retention latch or locking mechanism to secure the module in place. If your chassis supports hot‑swap, you can perform this step while the server is powered in a controlled maintenance window, following Lenovo guidance.
  • Reconnect and verify: Reconnect any required cables or backplane connections. Replace the server cover, restore power, and boot the system. Verify the module status by checking the server management tools or LED indicators on the power supply module. Ensure both redundant modules are recognized by the system and reporting healthy operation.
  • Test and monitor: Monitor the power supply status during initial run to confirm stability under load. Validate that redundancy functions as intended by simulating a module fault (in accordance with manufacturer guidance) or by reviewing management telemetry that confirms failover readiness.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: Is this power supply compatible with all Lenovo ThinkSystem and ThinkServer models?
A: The Lenovo 1800W Redundant Power Supply is designed for Lenovo server platforms that support hot‑pluggable, redundant PSU modules. Compatibility depends on the specific chassis and backplane. Always verify with the server’s maintenance manual or Lenovo support to confirm model compatibility before purchase.
  • Q: Do I need both power modules to run the server?
A: The redundant design provides higher availability, but many systems can operate with a single module while the other module supports redundancy. For mission‑critical workloads, Lenovo recommends installing both modules to maximize uptime and protect against unexpected power failures.
  • Q: Can the power supply be replaced while the server is running?
A: Replacement practices vary by chassis and module design. The Lenovo documentation for hot‑swap capable environments should be consulted. In many cases, hot‑swap is supported, enabling maintenance without full shutdown, but always follow official guidelines and perform replacements during a maintenance window if required by your deployment.
  • Q: What indicators show the health of the power supply?
A: Most Lenovo PSU modules provide LED indicators and can report status through the server management interface. Health signals typically include module presence, power good status, and fault/overload indications. Refer to your server’s management tools for real‑time telemetry.
  • Q: Is there a warranty or support package for this power supply?
A: Lenovo offers warranty and support options that vary by region and reseller. Check with Lenovo or your authorized partner for the exact warranty terms, service levels, and renewal options applicable to your purchase.
  • Q: Can this PSU improve energy efficiency of my server?
A: A high‑quality 1800W redundant PSU can contribute to reduced power losses and better thermal performance in a well‑designed server system. While exact efficiency depends on operating conditions and the overall system design, Lenovo’s power supplies are engineered to deliver reliable power with attention to efficiency and thermal management, which can positively impact total cost of ownership over time.

Fits 2005 325xi
Size: 2002-2005 E46
Snapped perfectly into place. Zero play with the fit and hood hinge still just as accessible as oe grille. No trimming required. If you’re sick of snapping your grille back in every time you lift the hood, buy it! I also have the colored grill inserts and they snap on perfectly with no play. https://a.co/d/3F83eFx

Fit is perfect and these have a very nice glossy finish
Size: 2002-2005 E46
Fit is perfect and these have a very nice glossy finish, which looks much better than the matte finish. As others have said, the driver's side grill lacks a cut out where the hood latch pull handle swings out when you need to lift the hood (compare the driver's side grill with the existing grill to see location and size of the cut out). I was able to cut an opening within 10 minutes and I haven't had any problems opening the hood since the installation.

Nice Finish, Decent Fit
Size: 2002-2005 E46
The fitment isn't perfect like the OEM grilles, but overall I was satisfied. These are just slightly smaller than the originals so there is a little play once installed. No need to modify the LH side grille for clearance to the hood latch though as other reviews mention. It looks like the design has been revised to address that problem. I was impressed with the paint finish and there weren't any noticeable blemishes like dust or dirt in the paint. These are probably the best and cheapest gloss black kidney grilles for E46 that are currently available. OEM grilles w/ gloss black are basically discontinued so we're all stuck with aftermarket if you want the gloss black shadowline look.

loose fitment
Size: 2002-2005 E46
I guess it's a hit or miss with this. You either get perfect fitment or poor fitment like I did, after the install it's very loose.
