Discover a blend of reach, speed, and professional image quality designed for the EOS R system. The Canon RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM is a compact, lightweight super telephoto zoom that delivers outstanding sharpness, reliable autofocus, and versatile performance—from fast sports to intimate wildlife moments and even dramatic aviation coverage. Built to Canon’s L-series standards, this lens brings exceptional resolving power, robust construction, and sophisticated stabilization to the RF lineup, empowering photographers to capture decisive moments with confidence and creativity.

  • All-in-one telephoto range for fearless field shooting: The 100-500mm focal length covers a wide spectrum—from environmental portraits at 100mm to distant subjects at 500mm—allowing you to adapt quickly to changing scenes without swapping lenses. This flexibility is especially valuable on busy sidelines, in unpredictable wildlife behavior, or when chasing fast aircraft in the sky.
  • Professional optical quality with weather-resistant build: As a true L-series lens, it delivers exceptional sharpness, contrast, and color fidelity across the frame. The optical design minimizes aberrations and distortion, ensuring image quality remains consistently high from corner to corner, even at the longest focal lengths. Coupled with weather sealing, it’s built for challenging outdoor environments, rain or shine.
  • Fast, reliable focus with smooth, quiet operation: Equipped with USM autofocus for rapid, precise focusing and near-silent performance, this lens tracks motion smoothly—crucial for sports and wildlife where the action moves quickly. The autofocus system works in harmony with Canon EOS R bodies to deliver responsive performance in a variety of lighting conditions.
  • Advanced image stabilization for crisp handheld shots: The RF100-500mm features Canon IS technology that helps stabilize your view and keep your images sharp. Expect solid performance in moderate to challenging light, enabling you to shoot at slower shutter speeds to freeze motion or create deliberate subject separation without a tripod in many scenarios.
  • User-centric design for comfortable, expressive shooting: Designed with the RF ecosystem in mind, this lens includes a thoughtful Zoom Ring, a robust build, and intuitive handling that suits both stills and video work. The compact form factor for a telephoto zoom enhances balance on mirrorless bodies, making long shoots more comfortable and enjoyable, whether you’re perched in the stands, hidden in the woods, or tracking planes from a runway.

how to install Canon RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM

Mounting this lens to a Canon EOS R camera is straightforward. Follow these steps to ensure a secure setup and optimal performance:

  • Turn off the camera before removing the existing lens or attaching the new lens to avoid sensor or electronics issues.
  • Align the red dot on the lens mount with the corresponding mark on the camera body. Gently insert the lens into the mount.
  • Rotate the lens until you hear or feel a soft click, indicating the lens is securely mounted. Do not force rotation beyond this point.
  • Power on the camera and enable any lens-related settings such as IS/Correction features. If available, activate Coordinated IS for improved stabilization when using multiple IS systems together.
  • Attach the lens hood if included to reduce glare and protect the front element in bright conditions. Ensure the lens hood is oriented correctly to avoid vignetting.
  • Set the focal length to your initial shooting preference (e.g., 100mm for wider scenes or 500mm for distant subjects) and adjust focus manually or with AF as needed. For handheld work, enable IS and adjust shutter speed to suit motion and lighting conditions.
  • When not in use, store the lens with the cap on and in a protective bag or pouch. Clean the front element with a microfiber cloth and avoid touching the glass with bare fingers.

Value for your money
Style: AVR-X2800H
I am loving the sound quality while listening to music as well as watching movies. I am running a 5.2.2 surround sound which is a step up from my sound bar and I am loving it. This receive has tons of features. Apart from the sound quality, I love the fact that I can set my power on volume and a volume limit.

More like a 7.1.2 not 7.2
Style: AVR-X2800H
Looks and feel brand new, set up is easy especially if you have used Denon before. I needed to upgrade my old system to get the 8k signal for a new TV i bought. The only issue I've had is its listed as 7.2, but its more of 7.1.2. You can connect 7 speakers and adjust each individually, you can connect 2 subs but they both receive a split signal and can not be individually adjusted in the receiver. A little misleading, but still a great system.

Worth the Money
Style: AVR-X2800H
I have had this item for a few weeks now. This is the first high-tech AVR I have purchased. I decided to retire my 25 year old Denon AVR 900. Still works awesome and is in perfect shape. Needed to upgrade to newer technology. Many will frown at this, but I initially sent back an Onkyo TX-RZ30. I just found that I did not feel comfortable with the technology, but it is an exceptional receiver. I decided to go with the Denon AVR-X2800H. I just feel more confident with the Denon layout and setup guide. I have not been dissapointed. I very reluctantly ordered a refurshed model. I can tell no different, even in the packaging. Looked totally brand new. I will say that I am still learning all of the setup, but so as for ease of general setup and assigning speakers it has been very user friendly. I was curious to see the sound difference with music between my 25 year old Denon and the new Denon 2800. I was not dissapointed. I have a smaller room for the AVR, so I am using Klipsch 600II, Klipsch 400C center speaker, Fluance Signature Series bookshelf speakers, and Polk OWM3 rear speakers. The receiver push all these speaker quite easily and efficiently. I would definatly recommend this Denon model. Can it last 25 years plus like my other Denon. Only time will tell.

Please Read for Troubleshooting Info
Style: AVR-X2800H
I purchased a refurbished device and at first it worked fine. Then it started having a lot of trouble on power up locking into my DirectTV cable signal. It kept powering up my Blu-ray player and accessing its menu, even though I had not selected it and there was no disc loaded. I became frustrated enough that I returned the device. Wish I hadn't as it was a nice home theater system. To make a long story short, I bought another brand of receiver (for more money) and continued to have the exact same problem. Finally, a Google search found a troubleshooting solution on reddit. Many reddit users suggested turning off the HDMI CEC control. This was easier said than done, as this HDMI CEC control setting was not found in the Denon receiver menus. It was found in the setup menu for the Blu-ray player. Once I found the proper setting and turned it off the receiver was no longer confused and trying to access the Blu-ray player upon power up. It locked in on the DirertTV signal and was rock solid. I wish I had learned this solution earlier and had kept this nice receiver. I'm so bummed.
