Designed for modern data centers and remote workstations, the Black Box Series Server Access Module (SAM) delivers secure, flexible access to servers via Mini DisplayPort, USB, Audio, and CATx connectivity. This compact device integrates into your IT environment to streamline server management, reduce downtime, and boost operator efficiency. Whether you are a network administrator, a systems engineer, or a field technician, the SAM puts you in control with reliable, plug-and-play performance that scales with your infrastructure. It is built to simplify complex maintenance tasks, providing a dependable conduit for console access, diagnostics, and routine administration across diverse server ecosystems.

  • Versatile connectivity for every management scenario: The SAM combines a Mini DisplayPort video path, USB for keyboard and mouse, an audio channel for headset monitoring, and a CATx interface for remote access and extended reach. This all-in-one approach minimizes cable clutter, simplifies deployment, and enables quick switching between local and remote control during routine maintenance, firmware updates, or troubleshooting. With this integrated suite, you can connect monitoring stations, BIOS-level consoles, and diagnostic tools without juggling multiple adapters. The result is streamlined workflows, faster issue isolation, and a less cluttered rack environment.
  • Compact, rack-friendly design built for the data center: The SAM’s compact, rugged form fits neatly into 19-inch racks or workstation enclosures, freeing valuable bench space while delivering dependable, high-performance access. Its sturdy construction and efficient thermal profile mean it performs reliably in busy IT environments, even when dozens of devices are connected at once. The modular design supports easy integration into existing infrastructure without requiring a complete overhaul of your setup. Its lightweight footprint allows for flexible deployment in small server rooms, branch offices, or large data centers, making it a versatile addition to any IT toolkit.
  • Wide compatibility for diverse server environments: Built to work with a broad range of server platforms—from traditional rack servers to modern blade chassis—the SAM supports common management workflows used by IT teams. Whether you’re administering Windows, Linux, or virtualization platforms, the module provides consistent behavior across devices, simplifying training and reducing the learning curve for new staff or contractors. The inclusive interface set ensures that you can audit, monitor, and control servers across multiple hosts from a single point of access, enabling unified, cross-platform management without sacrificing performance or reliability.
  • Secure, reliable access with resilient operation: Security and reliability are at the core of the SAM. The device is designed to be powered and operated in line with enterprise security policies, enabling safe, auditable access to servers. Robust connectors and shielded cabling protect signal integrity in busy rack environments, while built-in indicators give real-time status updates so operators know when a session is active or when maintenance is needed. In addition, the SAM maintains stable performance during firmware updates or high-traffic management tasks, minimizing downtime and supporting rigorous change-control processes. Its design emphasizes redundancy and fault tolerance to keep administrators connected when it matters most.
  • Productivity-boosting features that cut downtime: With a single, integrated access point, administrators can perform remote maintenance, firmware updates, and troubleshooting without physical presence at the server rack. The SAM helps accelerate change control workflows, minimizes travel time for remote teams, and supports streamlined incident response. By consolidating console access into one device, IT teams can triage issues faster, verify configurations, and validate system health quickly—leading to higher uptime and more efficient operations. The result is a more agile IT environment where critical tasks are completed quickly, accurately, and with reduced risk.

how to install Black Box Series Server Access Module

  • Power down the server and ensure the installation area is clean, grounded, and compliant with your data-center safety policies. Gather the required cables for Mini DisplayPort, USB (keyboard/mouse), Audio, and CATx connections to your management station or KVM switch.
  • Mount the SAM into an available 19-inch rack slot or position it securely on a stable surface near the servers it will manage. Use the included mounting hardware if provided, and ensure there is adequate clearance for cabling and airflow.
  • Connect the Mini DisplayPort from the server to the SAM’s Mini DisplayPort input, attach USB cables for keyboard/mouse control, and route the CATx cable to your remote management network or KVM infrastructure. If you need audio monitoring during maintenance, connect the Audio path as required. Verify that all connectors are seated firmly to prevent intermittent signals.
  • Power on the server and observe the SAM’s status indicators to confirm proper power delivery and activity. If your environment requires integration with a management platform or KVM switch, configure the SAM within the software according to your organization’s deployment guidelines.
  • Open your preferred management console or remote session tool and select the SAM as the active host. Test video to ensure display clarity, test USB input for a keyboard and mouse, and verify audio routing if used. Perform a brief maintenance task to confirm stability and confirm that remote sessions are establishing without error.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: What is the Black Box Series Server Access Module (SAM)?

A: It is a compact, integrated access device that provides Mini DisplayPort video, USB input/output, audio, and CATx connectivity to servers for local and remote management operations. Takes a Licking and Keeps on Ticking
Color: Green/Black
I love this watch despite the fact that it is really a toy. I love the look of the watch, I love how lite the weight of the watch is on my wrist, and it really does keep good time if you manage the solar charge properly. Other than looking cool on your wrist, this watch has absolutely no functions other than time keeping. The black plastic bezel is molded into the case and does not turn, so don't plan on using that. The watch has no light, the dial numbers are non-luminous and the hands are very limited in terms of luminosity. No buttons. All you can do is adjust the time and date by pulling out what used to be a winding stem in the good old days. The small tag on the strap with Geographic coordinates shown on it indicate the location of the old Timex manufacturing facility (SW of Waterbury, CT). I have a nice ledge at my bedroom window and it gets good western sun for a good part of the day regardless of the time of year. On this ledge you will find a half dozen solar powered watches (mostly Casio) properly aligned to maximize the charge they may receive each day. Note that the description for this Timex watch specifically states that a lightbulb won't charge this watch. You need direct sunlight for several hours if you want to get more than a 3-week charge into this watch. So, I'll leave you with a couple of tips, my friends; 1.) If you are looking for a first watch to give your outdoorsy oriented Son or Daughter, then give them this one. Why? Because it is cool looking, fairly well built, and it actually works, 2.) After you receive your Timex watch, be sure to keep the display mount it is packaged with. It makes a great fixture to mount your watch on for charging and allows you to maximize the position of the solar cells on the dial so that you can optimize charging time. Have Fun! Jimmy

Excellent value, flawless performance for well over a year and no signs of quitting.
Color: Green/Black
Excellent value, had this for well over a year and it still keeps perfect time, still water resistant. No worries about having to change batteries. Owned a fancy expensive (battery) watch once and the dept. store repair intentionally sabotaged the watch in the hopes I would purchase another from them. Yeah, good luck with that, lost my business forever. This is the 21st century, cell phones are the new time pieces, but solar is totally reliable and Timex makes it happen. Holds a charge for many months, although I prop it in a bright window for a few days every few months or so just to make sure the cells are always fully charged, although it's probably unnecessary, just being over cautious. I haven't actually experienced this watch ever running out of power even after months of use. Damn impressive, as it should be.

Good value for solar watch
Color: Black/Orange
Nice watch! It is plastic like but it is solar. No indiglo button only a little luminous on the hands so you don't want to wear it in tje dark and expect to check the time. 45mm case is good size for my wrist and the band works good also, Not too long not too short. Overall a good watch with no problems

Do not buy
Color: Green/Black
Do not buy. When I received the watch it did not work and the battery was dead. I bought a new battery and it killed that one as well after about a month.
