“Wendy Dean diagnoses the dangerous state of our healthcare system, illustrating the thumbscrews applied to medical professionals by their corporate overlords… Required reading for all stakeholders in healthcare.” — Danielle Ofri, MD, PhD, author of When We Do Harm: A Doctor Confronts Medical Error
Offering examples of how to make medicine better for the healers and those they serve, If I Betray These Words profiles clinicians across the country who are tough, resourceful, and resilient, but feel trapped between the patient-first values of their Hippocratic oath and the business imperatives of a broken healthcare system.
Doctors face real risks when they stand up for their patients and their oath; they may lose their license, their livelihood, and for some, even their lives.
There’s a growing sense, referred to as moral injury, that doctors have their hands tied – they know what patients need but can’t get it for them because of constraints imposed by healthcare systems run like big businesses.
Workforce distress in healthcare—moral injury—was a crisis long before the COVID-19 pandemic, but COVID highlighted the vulnerabilities in our healthcare systems and made it impossible to ignore the distress, with 1 in 5 American healthcare workers leaving the profession since 2020, and up to 47% of U.S. healthcare workers now planning to leave their positions by 2025.
If I Betray These Words confronts the threat and broken promises of moral injury – what it is; where it comes from; how it manifests; and who’s fighting back against it. We need better healthcare—for patients and for the workforce. It’s time to act.

This is a GREAT product line! Excellent fit!
Size: XX-Large, Color: Whiteblueleaf, Size: XX-Large, Color: Whiteblueleaf
Ordered 5 of these for a trip to Hawaii- and they did NOT disappoint! I don't do well in humidity, and these were the solution. The fabric is light but strong, and I am a bigger guy who usually where's a 2X Tall- the 2X was perfect. Just the right length, not too short like almost all of the other shirts I get off Amazon.
Cool and moisture wicking without and discoloration, no embarrassing sweat marks and they do not hold any odor. Beats the regular cotton shirts for sure. After washing the colors, fit and finish have all held up wonderfully!

I love golf shirts !
Size: XX-Large, Color: Greengolf
I really love the design and feel of this shirt. The rub, is that it’s wrinkled all the time!! Even after a couple of washings. Also tried to water spray and let hang dry and also redry in the dryer.
I’ve also worn it golfing. Hoping it would get better. Maybe my imagination, but does seem a little better. Golfing isn’t supposed to be a fashion show. But comfy nice shirts a must. I have this same shirt in black background. Love it, and isn’t as wrinkled. Black isn’t the best color on really warm summer days.
Might keep this for a bit and see if it settles. No TV cameras on my golf game, ha! Just seem to play better when I feel good and look good. And most courses require collared shirts.
Ok! Washed it again and let it hang dry! Wrinkles are gone!! Great shirt!! Now have it in several colors! The lighter colors are great!! Fend off the heat and nice enough to wear to church!!

Great golf shirt
Size: X-Large, Color: White Rhombus
Great golf shirt! Husband loves it, I will order more! They are a little longer than he would wear because he doesn’t tuck his in but over all great. Price is decent compared to what you spend in stores these days. The material is very light and great for south Arkansas heat.
