Adrian Mole: The Wilderness Years (4)

Adrian Mole: The Wilderness Years is the fourth book in Sue Townsend's brilliantly funny Adrian Mole series.
Thursday January 3rd I have the most terrible problems with my sex life. It all boils down to the fact that I have no sex life. At least not with another person. Finally given the heave-ho by Pandora; Adrian Mole finds himself in the unenviable situation of living with the love-of-his-life as she goes about shacking up with other men. Worse; as he slides down the employment ladder; from
deskbound civil servant in Oxford to part-time washer-upper in Soho; he finds that critical reception for his epic novel; Lo! The Flat Hills of My
Homeland; is not quite as he might have hoped.

Adrian Mole: The Cappuccino Years (5)

Adrian Mole: The Cappuccino Years is the fifth book in Sue Townsend's brilliantly funny Adrian Mole series.
Wednesday August 13th Here I am again - in my old bedroom. Older; wiser; but with less hair; unfortunately. The atmosphere in this house is very bad. The dog looks permanently exhausted. Every time the phone rings my mother snatches it up as though a kidnapper were on the line. Adrian Mole is thirty; single and a father. His cooking at a top London restaurant has been equally mocked ('the sausage on my plate could have been a turd' - AA Gill) and celebrated (will he be the nation's first celebrity offal chef?). And the love of his life; Pandora Braithwaite; is the newly elected MP for Ashby-de-la-Zouch - one of 'Blair's Babes'. He is frustrated; disappointed and undersexed. But a letter from Adrian's past is about to change everything . . . 'Adrian Mole really is a brilliant comic creation. Every sentence is witty and well thought out; and the whole has

Good looking toy that has held up well
Style: Coyote, Style: Coyote
Very durable toy that our little dog especially loves. It's the perfect size for a small dog and she doesn't destroy toys anyway so it's been great. It does feel very durable though and would take our chewer a little while to get to it as well. I'm not sure it looks like a coyote but the dogs don't seem to mind. It's an attractive toy that looks great and is constructed well so it's not like a slobbery mess when left out. Good value for the money and would make a great gift because it looks higher quality than most toys.

May be ballistic nylon, but the seams are flimsy.
Style: Gator, Style: Gator
I really wanted my pup to like this toy because it looks great and feels solid at first. The design is fun, the material seems tough, and it definitely gives the impression that it can handle some rough play. Unfortunately, that didn’t turn out to be the case at all. After just about 5 minutes of play, the top seam split open and stuffing started coming out. This wasn’t even extreme chewing, just normal play, and it failed almost immediately. As you can see in the photos, the tear happened right along the top seam, which is exactly where you’d expect a toy to be reinforced. Once it opened up, the toy was essentially done. For something marketed as ballistic nylon, this was really disappointing. It might be fine for very gentle dogs, but if your dog has even moderate chewing habits, this likely won’t last. Based on my experience, I wouldn’t recommend it. especially at 19.99 which is the price at time of my review, I feel it does not offer good value for money.

A Surprisingly Tough Favorite for All Four of My Dogs
Style: Armadillo, Style: Armadillo
I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Hound 2.0 stuffed armadillo toy, but it has been a total hit in my house. Neither the dogs nor I have managed to find the squeaker yet—so it’s either missing or extremely well hidden—but honestly, the dogs don’t seem to care at all. They love this thing. I have four dogs ranging from a 22 lb Boston Terrier to an 85 lb pitbull, plus two medium Blue Heelers in between, and this toy has been thoroughly tested by every size and play style. I was a little unsure whether they’d like the harder “shell” portion of the armadillo, but they actually love it. It gives the toy a unique texture and makes it feel more durable. Before this, I knew nothing about the Hound 2.0 brand, but I’m a fan now. My little Boston Terrier is notorious for ripping every toy he touches, and this armadillo has stood up to him like a champ. The tag said it was made for outdoor play, wrestling, and chewing—and that’s absolutely true. I haven’t taken it outside yet, but inside it has survived rough play from all four dogs and still looks brand new. I also love that each toy in this line is a different animal with the hard parts in different places. It makes them feel unique instead of just the same toy in different shapes. I’ll definitely be buying more of these. If you have a pup—big, small, or anywhere in between—I’d recommend giving this toy a try. It’s been a winner in my multi‑dog home.

Unique armadillo design
Style: Armadillo
I love the look of this armadillo toy. The flexible rubber shell gives it a spiky texture. It has reinforced nylon seams and printed eyes. The feet allow the toy to stand on its own, daring dogs to come knock it over. With a body length of 12" and standing 5" tall, the toy is of good size for even larger dogs, but it intimidated my 8lb yorkie mix. She found the hard shell and spikes off-putting and not fun. The toy is supposed to squeak, but either mine was broken or buried too deep to be useful. This was disappointing because I think a squeak would have helped my pup engage with the toy because she can't resist a noisy toy. I'd recommend this armadillo for larger dogs than my tiny pup. It seems durable with that rubber shell around the body.

A hound's dream toy.
Size: Small, Style: Mallard Duck
I bought this for our "grandson"--a happy go lucky beagle--to play with while we were dogsitting. It took a while to motivate him to play with it, but eventually he caved... and then promptly proceeded to tear its insides out! I took a photo and sent it to my son, and he remarked, "Wow, it has been a long time since he played with a toy like that." So even an old hound past his prime enjoyed this toy. As for quality, this is a very well made toy. Yes, it's true that the dog ripped it to shreds, but that'll happen to any toy if the dog is determined enough. I was happy he enjoyed it. He also has two loofa dog toys here that he hardly ever touches, but this duck toy was too much for him to resist. My only suggestion is to supervise your dog while he plays with this. Besides the inner stuffing, the toy has a fuzzy surface to it, and you don't want him chewing a bunch of fuzz if he tears some out, as dogs are apt to do. Other than that, GREAT DOG TOY!
