Netgear M4300 Layer 3 Switch — 48-Port Managed Gigabit + 10GBASE-X

The Netgear M4300 Layer 3 Switch is a high-performance, scalable networking solution designed to meet the demands of modern enterprise, campus, and data-center environments. This 48-port, managed switch blends dependable Gigabit Ethernet with high-speed 10 Gigabit Ethernet capabilities to deliver a flexible, future-ready foundation for growing networks. Built to handle diverse traffic patterns—from head-end data transfers and large file backups to latency-sensitive applications and real-time collaboration—the M4300 provides robust Layer 3 routing, advanced security features, and a resilient design aimed at maximizing uptime and efficiency. It’s engineered to simplify network management while expanding bandwidth through stacking, making it an ideal choice for organizations that need dependable connectivity, predictable performance, and scalable growth without sacrificing control.

Designed with versatility in mind, the Netgear M4300 Layer 3 Switch consolidates switching, routing, and policy enforcement in a single platform. The combination of 48 RJ-45 ports for reliable copper connectivity and 10GBASE-X fiber options enables streamlined connections to servers, storage, and core network devices. Whether you’re building a campus core, an edge aggregation layer, or a compact data center rack, this switch provides the reliability you need to manage growing traffic loads, support VLAN segmentation, and enforce security and quality-of-service policies across your entire network.

  • 48 x 10/100/1000BASE-T ports: Flexible copper connectivity for desktops, printers, IP phones, cameras, and other networked endpoints, delivering reliable performance across the office or campus.
  • 10GBASE-X capability: High-speed fiber uplinks or connections to servers and storage, enabling low-latency, high-bandwidth links to your core or aggregation layers.
  • Layer 3 routing support: Advanced routing features that optimize traffic between VLANs, improve network efficiency, and simplify complex topologies with scalable policy control.
  • Managed switch with comprehensive controls: Centralized management through CLI and GUI, plus security and policy features such as VLANs, access control, and monitoring for consistent performance and governance.
  • Stacking and scalable bandwidth: A design that supports stacking to increase aggregate bandwidth and simplify management as you scale, helping you unify multiple devices into a single operational entity.

How to install Netgear M4300 Layer 3 Switch

To deploy the Netgear M4300 Layer 3 Switch, start by selecting a suitable 19-inch rack position and ensuring adequate ventilation and power supply. Mount the switch in the rack or place it on a stable surface if rack mounting is not required in your setup, then connect the console power and network cabling. Attach devices to the 48 RJ-45 ports for end-user workstations, IP cameras, printers, and other devices that require reliable copper connectivity. Connect uplinks to your core network or aggregation switches using the 10GBASE-X interfaces to establish high-speed paths for server access, virtualization hosts, or storage arrays. Power on the device and verify initial POST status, then access the management interface to begin configuration.

Begin with basic network settings: assign a management IP address, configure a default gateway, and establish your administrative credentials. Next, design your network topology by creating VLANs that segment traffic by department or function, and assign the appropriate ports to each VLAN. Implement security policies with access control lists to restrict management and user access, and enable QoS to prioritize latency-sensitive applications such as voice, video, and real-time collaboration. If you require routing between VLANs, enable Layer 3 routing and define static routes or routing protocols according to your network design. For redundancy and uptime, consider enabling features like VRRP/HSR where supported, and document your configuration for future audits and revisions.

Finally, perform a routine firmware check and apply the latest updates from Netgear to ensure you have the most current security patches and feature enhancements. Organize ongoing monitoring with SNMP, logs, and performance metrics to observe traffic patterns, detect anomalies, and plan capacity growth. Regularly back up your configuration and test failover procedures to minimize disruption during maintenance or hardware changes. With proper installation and careful tuning, the Netgear M4300 Layer 3 Switch becomes a resilient backbone for your network, delivering stable performance and scalable growth as your requirements evolve.

Do not buy
Color: Green/Black
Do not buy. When I received the watch it did not work and the battery was dead. I bought a new battery and it killed that one as well after about a month.

Inexpensive doesn’t mean cheap.
Color: Black/Orange
After 10 months, zero complaints. Well, I got rid of the horrible NATO strap 🙄. That’s a personal preference. Easy to swap out to whatever you like. Keeps accurate time meaning it’s the same time. I’m not micro analyzing it and the seconds gained/lost. It has a confident look and feel and makes you feel good when wearing it. Sure it’s not high priced but it’s not cheap. Very comfortable, light and not unincumbered. If this is what you’re looking at, you’d be satisfied. Great looking, durable and simple watch. Full confidence.

Budget Seiko Prospex this is not
Color: Black/Orange
Bought this as a cheap work watch, but I guess all the budget went into the solar technology. No date adjust feature, gotta crank the crown over and over to adjust the date. (Also no screw-down crown, but that's expected at this price) Fake diver bezel. Lol why? Cringe as heck. Should of just put a compass bezel on there instead tbh. Cheap plastic crystal, scratches and mars just by looking at it. Okay NATO strap. Falls apart quickly, but it's easily replaceable with a better quality one. Decent lume on the hands, but none on the hour markers even though it looks like there is. Looks cool.

Simplicity
Color: Black/Orange
This watch was received exactly as advertised. First off the watch is economical compared to other watches that advertise the same details. I will say that I have gone through numerous Luminox watches only to be disappointed. This watch fits the bill. It does have solar cells which mean it needs to be exposed to light to keep running, not a problem. Three minutes under my surefire light I am golden. The bezel doesn't rotate actually no big deal for me. I have always required that the bezel moves not anymore after having a bezel that rotates I use it next to never. Here's why, the more I rotate the bezel the more the numbers wear off. The strap on the watch with the catches for the strap are perfect. They actually hold the watch strap in place in lieu of like other big name brands that just flop and slide. As far as everyday use goes this watch is my go to. To be honest I have purchased three. This is the only watch I will wear moving forward, yeah the glass my scratch but even the big names like the Luminox I spoke of earlier scratches too.
