“Allak” means “lake,” in Sami, the language of the indigenous people of northern Scandinavia.

Among the best tentmakers worldwide, Hilleberg has over 50 years of experience in manufacturing the highest-quality, lightweight, all-season tents. The Allak 3-person tent is the three-person version of Hillberg's ever-popular Allak tents.

A member of Hillberg's Red Label collection, this exceptional tent is a true all-season tent, whilst still weighing little enough to suit backcountry backpacking. This tent is versatile, adventurous, and well-suited for anything from summer paddling to winter ski mountaineering, from year-round backpacking to all-season peak bagging.

The two-entrance construction allows for superb warm-weather ventilation, the Allak's three-pole dome structure is strong enough for summer or winter base camp use in all but the worst conditions and the fully freestanding construction makes it ideal for tough pitching conditions, such as rocky ground and sand. Furthermore, two integrated vestibules are set parallel to the sleeping area, giving excellent access to gear storage space as well as ease of entry and exit.

Features:

  • Kerlon 1200 outer tent fabric and 9mm poles make for a very lightweight yet supremely stable tent.
  • All season construction: outer tent walls extend to the ground and mesh areas are backed with adjustable fabric panels.
  • Dome construction with multiple pole crossing points provide outstanding snow-load handling capability.
  • Plenty of room for two occupants and their gear.
  • Linked but seperable inner and outer tent for simultaneous pitching.
  • Fully free standing dome design requires no pegs for pitching, and the straightforward short sleeve and clip pole system make for quick, easy set up.
  • Dual entrances and vestibules ensure that one door can always be situated out of the wind and provide flexible entry/exit and storage options.
  • An optional footprint covers the entire area of the outer tent, including the vestibules. It connects directly to the tent, and can be left attached during pitching. (Allak 3 Footprint sold separately).
  • Pegs: 14 x V-Pegs

A great collection of poetry.
Format: Paperback
I first "discovered" Stevens from selections of some of his work being a part of this work on poetics I have. The quotes are, I suppose, for the oddity of discovering an artist that is more well known than I'll ever be. Great book to have if you're interested in how poetry made its move from constrained to open.

Stevens wrote, "She sang beyond the genius of the sea." He did the same.
Format: Kindle
Thank you to the publisher for an ebook copy of Stevens' work. My ancient paperback copy is now retired. As for the poetry: my respectful suggestion is to read it and not feel obliged to understand it. Reading a poem isn't a contest you have to win. Let the music of the words wash over you. Float. You don't have to bring anything to this party except your willingness to be surprised, the way you're sometimes surprised, on waking, by a dream you had. Happy reading, whatever you choose to read.

Corrected and cleaned up, Stevens shines
Format: Paperback
The corrections to the text of the 1954 Collected Poems are worth paying for, but the attractive, highly readable typeface and layout make this collection pleasantly readable as well as compelling. Stevens is one of the greatest poets of the twentieth century, and in his corporate pin-stripe portliness he is also an inspiration to all of us basically nerdy, tweedy, non-Beat types who hope we possess a tiny spark of poetic genius. Romantic and post-romantic poetry is an argument between imagination and reality, and no one clarifies the terms of that argument better than Stevens.

Linus's blue blanket
Format: Hardcover
Even though I'm reading the hardcover, I wrap the wonderful, wise words of W.S. Merwin around me. His poems infuse my life with an even keener sense of appreciating the "now." His words keep me in constant contact with my sense of responsibility for our planet. He's an inspiration for taking action to preserve, conserve, and plant trees, as well as recognizing the magnitude of the impact that each being carries. The geese, all animals, relationships, taking better care of the earth and each other, as well as experiencing the sorrows and the joys in life. He is dedicated to the craft of poetry and its vital role of importance in our lives. I wish I could thank him in person, but since that's not realistic, I will continue to do my best to honor him in my own way, by taking time to observe, experience, appreciate, write, take action, and reflect upon the beauty in the world and making the most of each moment. Carpe Diem!
