The Magnamax Mules were one of the fastest selling products ever sold on Spyderco's website and it's easy to see why. Magnamax is touted to be the next great thing in knife steels, especially because the creator (who also formulated Magnacut) the renowned Larrin Thomas says it'll be like K390 but stainless. K390 (similar to CPM 10V) is already one of the best regarded carbon tool steels on the market, but since it's not stainless, it's a nonstarter for many users. However, with the unusually impressive stainlessness featured in Magnacut, MagnaMax is sure to be an instant fan favorite. You may have also heard of this steel before it had an official name, with rumors going around dubbing it "MagnaTuff" or "Proto X". We encourage you to put these knives through their paces and see what this new steel is really capable of! 

Yes. These are indeed legitimate - we picked it up directly from Spyderco's factory. 

We also got a few M398 mules for those who wanted another extreme performance stainless steel. It's another relatively newish alloy in the knife world and seems to be a relative of the popular M390, also from Bohler-Uddeholm. Spyderco did a run of these M398 mules to test their ability to work with M398 in the USA, but we believe their full attempt to made a folding knife with M398 failed and thus it's not likely that we'd see them use it again outside of their Italian-OEM'd models. 

Nothing particular to note with these seconds, same as the standard list of minor scuffs, scratches, and potentially minor edge damage. Your unit may come with red sharpie markings denoting where the scratch is, but that could be easily cleaned off. We can do it for you if you'd like, just let us know. Like all other factory second fixed blades (and standard mules) these do not come with sheaths or scales.
