The Vertiv Geist SwitchAir Airflow Cooling System is a purpose-built solution for data centers, edge facilities, and enterprise racks that addresses a common and costly challenge: getting cold air to the back of 19-inch network equipment without creating turbulence or hot spots. By sealing gaps and guiding front-to-back airflow, SwitchAir helps ensure network switches, load balancers, and routers run cooler, more reliably, and with greater energy efficiency. Designed to integrate with standard rack geometries, SwitchAir delivers a scalable, low-maintenance approach to airflow management that minimizes downtime, reduces cooling energy consumption, and extends the life of critical networking hardware.

  • Improved front-to-back cooling for critical networking gear: SwitchAir directs cold air from the rack front directly to the intakes of network devices, reducing hot spots and maintaining uniform temperatures even under high data throughput and dense rack configurations.
  • Sealed airflow path with modular barriers: The system utilizes adjustable air dams and plenum components that tighten the seal around top, sides, and rear gaps. By minimizing bypass air, it prevents recirculation and maximizes the effectiveness of your cooling infrastructure.
  • Energy-efficient cooling outcomes: With reduced hot-air recirculation, cooling fans operate more efficiently, potentially lowering energy consumption and fan noise while promoting longer device longevity through stable operating temperatures.
  • Simple integration into standard 19-inch racks: Built for compatibility with common data-center racks, SwitchAir installs without complex rewiring or nonstandard mounting; it leverages existing rack rails and fits within typical depth profiles to preserve cable management and access.
  • Low-maintenance, durable design: Crafted for long-term reliability in data-center environments, SwitchAir features robust materials, corrosion resistance, and straightforward maintenance steps designed to keep performance consistent with minimal downtime.

How to install Vertiv Geist SwitchAir Airflow Cooling System

Installing SwitchAir is designed to be straightforward for technicians familiar with standard 19-inch rack environments. Begin by powering down affected equipment and verifying visual access to the top and rear sections of the rack where the air management components will reside. Position SwitchAir modules along the top/back portions of the rack to form the primary sealed pathway for cold air. Use the included mounting hardware to secure the panels to compatible rack rails, ensuring a tight fit that minimizes any gaps through which air can bypass the intended flow path. Attach the modular air dams to create a continuous barrier that prevents warm exhaust from mixing with incoming cold air. Align all seals with the front intake area so that cold air is funneled directly toward the rear of each device, then re-route cables and hardware to maintain clean cable management and avoid obstructing the airflow plenum. Once installation is complete, re-check all fasteners for security and confirm that the doors or panels can close fully without interference. Restore power and monitor the temperature and airflow across the rack to validate the improvements. Periodically inspect seals and gaps for dust, wear, or damage, and perform light cleaning as part of routine maintenance to maintain optimal performance. The result is a controlled, front-to-back airflow environment that supports cooler operation, reduced hot spots, and a more resilient network infrastructure.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: What problem does SwitchAir solve? A: SwitchAir tackles inefficient airflow in network racks by sealing gaps and guiding cold air from the front of the rack to the back of your devices. This reduces hot spots, minimizes hot air recirculation, and helps maintain more consistent operating temperatures for switches, routers, and load balancers, leading to improved reliability and longer equipment life.
  • Q: How does SwitchAir contribute to energy efficiency? A: By creating a more direct, sealed airflow path, the cooling system reduces the workload on rack fans and the datacenter cooling system. Less recirculation means cooler intake air reaches device thermals more efficiently, which can translate into lower overall energy use and quieter operation in dense rack environments.
  • Q: Is SwitchAir compatible with all 19-inch racks? A: SwitchAir is designed for standard 19-inch rack configurations typically found in data centers and edge deployments. When planning an installation, verify rack depth compatibility and ensure there is sufficient space at the top and rear to accommodate the air dam and plenum components without obstructing cabling.
  • Q: Do I need special tools or specialized training to install SwitchAir? A: The installation is intended to be straightforward for technicians familiar with standard rack equipment. Most steps involve mounting the panels with included hardware, attaching seals, and ensuring a clean, unobstructed airflow path. Regular maintenance checks are minimal but recommended to preserve performance.
  • Q: Can SwitchAir be retrofitted into existing racks? A: Yes, SwitchAir is designed to be added to existing racks where front-to-back airflow improvements are desired. Proper planning should consider the rack’s current open gaps, the location of devices, and the availability of space for seals and plenum components to ensure an effective, sealed path.
  • Q: What benefits might I expect after installation? A: Expect improved cooling uniformity across rack devices, reduced hot spots, potential energy savings from optimized fan operation, quieter rack environments, and potentially extended life for network equipment due to more stable temperatures and reduced thermal cycling.

Finally sleeping well again
Color: Soft, Size: Standard(24"×16"×5.5"), Color: Soft, Size: Standard(24"×16"×5.5")
Got the standard soft and the height is just right - perfect mix of plush and supportive. My neck pain is basically gone. Love that it stays cool through the night thanks to the little vent holes, and the Tencel cover feels super soft. Holds its shape really well too, no flattening. Packaging felt like a gift. Worth every penny.

Natural Dunlop Latex Topper Has Multiple Uses
Size: Twin XL 2"
This is a well made, high quality, 2” thick piece of all-natural latex. You can use it on top of any bed to provide a nice, comfortable mattress topper that has a medium-firm feel to it. It gives good support for those who sleep on their back and on their sides. The latex topper springs back and sleeps cooler than memory foam toppers, which compress and generally sleep hot. Latex toppers cost more upfront than memory foam toppers, but they can last twice as long. I built a custom-made all-natural latex bed that was too soft and didn’t provide enough support. I removed a 2” thick piece of ultra soft (#14) Talalay latex inside the bed and replaced it with this 2” thick piece of Dunlop latex for more support. I then used the Talalay latex on top as a mattress topper and now my bed is perfect! Once you’ve slept on all- natural latex, you’ll never want to go back to artificial memory foam.

Discovered latex and thrilled
Size: Queen
Bought a Beautyrest mattress in late 2021 that now is uncomfortable and has dips. Beautyrest would reject the 10 year warranty due to a single stain on mattress (based on their policy), so I didn't even bother. So, I pondered if I should order a new one and which one. In the process I found out latex toppers may save the day. Talatex medium firm mattress in queen size was received within a week and a half and installed on top of existing Beautyrest mattress. Since then, no pain in hips, no sweating at night, no neck problems. My daughter tested it one night with me, and since then wants to sleep on my bed and not hers, so this is really reviewed by two people. Excellent product!! Has a bounce but you don't sink in it (two mattresses ago, I had a 13" high end high density visco elastic memory foam mattress where sinking into it happened). When I can afford, I will buy a 4" latex topper firm and install that under the existing 2" Talatex medium firm over a slatted base. I'll do away completely w/ the mattress I'm using now.

Does not provide much pressure relief
Size: Queen
It does keep you cooler/neutral. It needs to be a little denser. When you are on it, it goes pretty flat. It does help some but my hip needs a little more support that this offers. Be aware, the cover has a coating of fire retardant. We asked them to send one without the toxic chemicals. (Personal choice)

Forget about the memory foam!
Size: Twin 3 Inches
My sleep quality is fantastic on this thing, and I don’t even sweat like a memory foam cover! I was scared to spend the money but I’m glad I did! It’s really helped my back and overall pain, as it rises to fit the empty spaces left by flat firm mattresses.
