The self-titled debut from Australian power trio Wolfmother is a thunderous throwback to 1970s hard rock, bursting with towering riffs and psychedelic flair. Released in late 2005 through Modular Recordings, the album became an immediate success in Australia, peaking at number three on the ARIA chart and earning five platinum certifications. Its international release in 2006 introduced the band to a global audience, with the single “Joker and the Thief” becoming a festival and film soundtrack staple.
Drawing comparisons to Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Queens of the Stone Age, Wolfmother delivers unrelenting energy across tracks like “Woman,” “Dimension,” and “White Unicorn.” Critics praised the band’s commitment to classic rock aesthetics, even as some questioned its derivative nature.
