How to install Cisco Intel Xeon Platinum (3rd Gen) 8368

  • Power down the server and disconnect from all power sources. Ground yourself to prevent static discharge and ensure the system is fully powered off before handling components.
  • Verify compatibility with your Cisco server’s motherboard socket and BIOS/firmware support. Review the latest documentation or contact Cisco support to confirm socket type, firmware requirements, and any necessary microcode updates.
  • Remove the existing CPU cooler and heatsink according to manufacturer instructions. Clean any old thermal paste from the heat spreader and ensure the mounting surface is flat and free of debris.
  • Install the new Xeon Platinum 8368 CPU into the socket, aligning the notches or markers precisely to avoid bent pins. Apply a thin, even layer of high-quality thermal paste if required by the cooler design.
  • Secure the heatsink and fans, reconnect all power and data cables, and close the server chassis. Reattach the power and boot the system to the BIOS/UEFI to verify that the new processor is recognized correctly.
  • Enter BIOS/UEFI to enable any recommended performance profiles or turbo/boost settings, if applicable, and ensure memory, PCIe, and thermal settings are optimized for your workload. Save changes and reboot.
  • Install any required microcode updates or firmware patches from Cisco and the CPU manufacturer, then perform a thorough post-installation test focusing on boot stability, thermal behavior, and key workloads to validate performance and reliability.
  • Monitor system performance and temperatures during initial production workloads. Use vendor-provided management tools to track CPU utilization, power consumption, and thermal headroom to ensure ongoing stability and efficiency.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: What workloads benefit most from the Cisco Intel Xeon Platinum 8368 upgrade? A: Virtualization-heavy environments, large-scale databases, analytics, ERP workloads, and AI/ML inference pipelines benefit significantly from the 38-core, 2.40 GHz configuration, experiencing higher parallel throughput and improved response times under concurrent user demands.
  • Q: Is this upgrade compatible with all Cisco servers? A: Compatibility depends on the specific Cisco server model, motherboard socket type, and BIOS firmware. Always verify with Cisco support or product documentation to confirm socket compatibility, firmware requirements, and any supported stepping or microcode versions before purchasing or installing.
  • Q: Will this processor affect energy consumption and cooling needs? A: Higher core counts and clock speeds can influence power draw and heat output. Expect a modest increase in thermal demand, and plan for adequate cooling, airflow, and potential BIOS-based power optimizations to maintain stable operation and steady performance under load.
  • Q: What are the maintenance implications after upgrade? A: After upgrading, monitor system temperatures, firmware versions, and performance benchmarks. Schedule regular firmware updates, driver patches, and health checks to sustain performance, reliability, and security in mission-critical deployments.
  • Q: Does upgrading to 3rd Gen Xeon Platinum require downtime? A: In most cases, server downtime is required for a CPU upgrade, as the motherboard must be powered down and components replaced. Plan for maintenance windows and backups, and follow Cisco’s deployment guidance to minimize impact on production.
  • Q: Are there security benefits with the 3rd Gen Xeon Platinum? A: Yes. The 3rd Gen Xeon Platinum lineup includes hardware-assisted security features designed to bolster data protection, secure boot processes, and integrity checks for trusted code and firmware, which helps enhance overall enterprise security posture in data-center environments.

Brings history to life
Format: Paperback
Got this book as a read aloud before traveling to London. We did a tour of the Tower of London and used the map in this book, marking off the different parts we walked theough- talking about which parts were the setting of different scenes in the book. Reading this gave my kids a real love and personal connection to the Tower. Cliffhanger endings to different chapters. My 9 and 6 year old lived it. My 4 year old couldn't keep up.

Accessible, fun, and exciting.
Format: Kindle
While this book is aimed at younger readers (it includes, for examples, expletives like "Zooks!" and "Zounds!"), I Escaped The Tower of London is a neat historical fiction novella with taught pacing that readers of all ages can enjoy. Using the real-life account of John Gerard as inspiration, the authors have created a young boy who escapes from the Tower of London while attempting to aid Princess Elizabeth during Queen Mary's reign. It's exciting, it fast-paced, and it even has a pleasant message about doing the right thing — even when the right thing is hard to do. It's packed with a hodgepodge of images (most of them public domain, but also a few original pieces) that add to the experience. And the end includes a brief lesson on the historical figures involved. Despite the source material, you shouldn't worry if you (or your young ones) are squeamish; the main character sidesteps the torture and there's very little violence. All in all, quite a good read. Very accessible, surprisingly fun and exciting.

wow!
Format: Kindle
What an amazing story that tells about history from the perspective of a kid named Ben that was pretty much forced (but was thankful for the work) to work with coal in the Tower of London, to find out Princess Elizabeth was arrested and sent to the same tower. The plot thickens as he helps her escape. He was met with many challenges, but his best friend Tim helped him always, what a faithful friend! I absolutely love and adore this story because it’s based on history and real life facts, these things actually happened! But when you read it, the author has written it so well it almost sounds like a fantasy! I can’t wait to read more, it’s such a great book, I give it 5 stars but really it deserves 10! Highly recommend!
