Background
Slug protein is a transcription factor that plays a crucial role in various biological processes. It belongs to the Snail family of zinc-finger transcription factors and is highly conserved across different species. Slug is involved in epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), a process where epithelial cells lose their cell-cell adhesion properties and acquire mesenchymal characteristics This. transition is essential during embryonic development for tissue remodeling and organogenesis. In addition, Slug has been implicated in cancer progression, where it can promote tumor invasion and metastasis by downregulating the expression of cell adhesion molecules such as E-cadherin. It also has roles in maintaining stem cell properties and regulating cell survival under stress conditions.
