The Vertiv Avocent HMX5000/6000 IP KVM Transmitter (HMX5150T-VGA) represents a premium, zero-U solution for extending keyboard, video, and mouse over IP. Engineered for efficiency and flexibility, this transmitter lives at the network edge to deliver secure, high-performance KVM access without occupying precious rack space. Designed for data centers, remote offices, and any environment that demands centralized, reliable control of multiple servers, the HMX5000/6000 family makes remote management intuitive—letting IT teams monitor, troubleshoot, and interact with servers from anywhere on the network while preserving full BIOS-level access when needed. The VGA variant HMX5150T-VGA delivers crisp VGA video support for legacy displays and graphics workloads, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of servers and workstations. With enterprise-grade security, scalable architecture, and seamless integration with the Avocent management ecosystem, this IP KVM transmitter is built to reduce downtime, simplify maintenance, and maximize rack density in busy data centers.

  • Zero-U footprint and rack-friendly deployment: The HMX5000/6000 transmitter is engineered to mount discreetly in a standard 19-inch rack or be placed remotely without adding bulk to the chassis, helping you optimize space while maintaining centralized control over your IT estate.
  • High-quality KVM over IP for VGA workloads: Enabling keyboard, video, and mouse extension over IP with minimal latency, the HMX5150T-VGA variant preserves video fidelity for VGA displays and legacy graphics workloads, delivering smooth, responsive sessions for operators across long distances.
  • Secure, scalable access with centralized management: Built for multi-user environments, the system supports encryption, authentication, and role-based access control. It integrates with the Avocent management suite to scale across facilities, providing centralized visibility and governance for hundreds of servers.
  • Flexible compatibility and future-proofing: Designed to work within the Avocent HMX ecosystem, the HMX5000/6000 line offers compatibility with matrix-based deployments and software tools that simplify firmware updates, session auditing, and policy enforcement, making it suitable for both small rooms and large data centers.
  • Comprehensive management features for efficient operations: USB keyboard/mouse passthrough, BIOS-level access, and seamless support for remote troubleshooting empower technicians to perform maintenance, BIOS configurations, and OS-level tasks without physical console access, reducing mean time to repair (MTTR).

Technical Details of Vertiv Avocent HMX5000/6000

How to install Vertiv Avocent HMX5000/6000

  • Plan your topology: Assess which servers will be controlled remotely, assign IP addressing for KVM over IP, and map network paths to minimize latency and optimize performance.
  • Prepare the rack and environment: Choose a suitable mounting location for the transmitter, ensuring adequate ventilation, clearance, and accessibility for maintenance.
  • Cable the target devices: Connect the VGA output from each server to the HMX5150T-VGA transmitter’s VGA input, attach USB keyboard/mouse to the transmitter or the connected host, and route Ethernet to your network switch.
  • Power up and verify hardware: Apply power to the transmitter, check status LEDs, and ensure the device initializes correctly. If using multiple transmitters, verify each unit powers independently and has network connectivity.
  • Configure the management interface: Access the Avocent management console to assign IP addresses, configure user accounts, and define access policies and security settings for remote sessions.
  • Pair and test sessions: Connect a client workstation to the managed network, initiate a KVM session, and verify that keyboard, video, and mouse input are accurately transmitted. Confirm BIOS access and remote control capabilities during boot and in operation.

Your high-energy dog will love it!
Why did I wait so long to get one of these?!? I am the stereotypical throws-like-a-girl person, and my dog really needs to have an option that forces her to run far and fast. This is it. I can get that ball half a soccer field away at a minimum if I want. The ball is super bouncy, which adds an element of fun to her attempts to tame it and bring it back. Super worth the money (which wasn't much!). I've never had one of these before, so can't compare to the non-folding version. This one is easy to carry and fits in a drawer for storrage. No way you can fit it in a pocket, especially if you have a phone in one and dog treats in the other.

Great usability
I prefer this version over the non-foldable stick, as this one I can fit into my bag and carry it out easily. Great size and has a locking feature to prevent it from folding up when throwing. Highly recommend, my dogs love fetch and it is hard to chew if they get their hands on it.

Almost Perfect
If you’ve ever seen these things, the foldable ones are just as good as the standard ones. I just wish when you folded it up there was a way to lock it into that position. When you unfold it to play, you lock it into place with the orange locking slide so it doesn’t fold up on you. But when you’re done playing and fold it up, there’s no way to lock it into that position, it can keep unfolding if you carry it around with you, plus the orange locking slide keeps sliding up and down. It’s not a huge deal, but they could’ve made it better.
