The Drape Skirt 9 Chandelier consists of 9 individual pendants gathered and supported by a central brass "skirt" structure. Each pendant features a 4.5"/110mm diameter diffuser of handblown Czech glass suspended on a fabric-wrapped electrical cord. The cords pass through the tubes of the "skirt", and the slight friction created by the cord passing through the bent tubing holds the "skirt" in place. The "skirt" element can be located anywhere along the length of the fixture/cords. The glass diffusers are available in both "dipped" glass, featuring the SkLO double-dipped flame-polished mouth and "textured" glass, featuring a soft, frosted finish and subtle sculpted vertical ridges. Cord lengths are field adjustable.

Glass shaped by hand

The glass spheres of the Drape Skirt 9 Chandelier are formed by hand, allowing them to be slightly imperfect to express their handmade origins. The "dipped" glass options feature an irregular, open mouth, created by double-dipping the piece into the molten glass crucible, followed by breaking the piece from the pipe and fire-polishing the opening - a purposeful expression of craft and the act of glassblowing. The "textured" glass diffusers have no opening. Their surface is frosted and features a subtle pattern of lines etched into the glass for a moody and classic look.

Graceful lines

"The Drape Skirt 9 Chandelier is about bringing to life an idea I had to tell a story about lighting that was graceful and almost feminine, and I wanted to do this within the existing language of the Drape collection," says SkLO Design Partner, Karen Gilbert.
"The Drape Skirt 9 Chandelier is an example of making a complex series of design relationships within one fixture look and feel effortless."
The fixture has an inherent verticality that works in both long and short lengths, and lends itself to stairwells, double-height spaces, and fits the complex needs of hospitality interiors, also.

The Drape collection is an investigation into the potential behind the idea of a simple cord-suspended glass pendant that displays the quality and variation of SkLO handblown glass. It begins, necessarily, with the basic Drape Pendant itself. But from there, minimal additions are made - opportunities to enhance the structure, scale, and design of the diverse series comprising the Drape collection, including the Drape Circle, Drape Arm, Drape Skirt, and many more.
