The Monnit ALTA Wireless Open-Closed Sensor is the ultimate plug-and-play security solution for doors, cabinets, walk-ins, and gated enclosures. Designed to keep tight control over access in high-demand environments, this AA battery powered sensor delivers reliable, real-time visibility into every entry point. Whether you manage a bustling restaurant, a sensitive laboratory, a data-center corridor, a remote facility, or an unoccupied building, the ALTA Open-Closed Sensor helps you confirm that openings stay closed and unauthorized access is promptly detected. With its easy setup, scalable cloud-based monitoring, and smart alerting, you’ll always know when doors aren’t secure, and you’ll be able to respond quickly to potential security or safety concerns. This sensor brings enterprise-grade monitoring to everyday applications, combining simplicity with powerful data-driven security that’s accessible from anywhere through the Monnit platform.

  • Plug-and-play installation with effortless pairing: The Monnit ALTA Wireless Open-Closed Sensor is built for rapid setup. You can install it on doors, walk-ins, cabinets, or other entry points in minutes, attach the sensor to a fixed frame, align the magnetic latch with the accompanying magnet, and pair it to your Monnit ALTA gateway. There’s no complex wiring or specialized tools required, making it ideal for shifting workspaces, seasonal facilities, or multi-location deployments. Once mounted, the sensor immediately begins monitoring and reporting, so you can start collecting actionable data without downtime or headaches. This plug-and-play capability is especially valuable for busy restaurants, labs, and server rooms where time and reliability matter most.
  • Real-time alerts across multi-channel notifications: When an entry point is opened or unexpectedly accessed, you’ll receive instant, customizable alerts. The ALTA Open-Closed Sensor supports push notifications through the Monnit mobile app, email alerts, and even SMS messages, ensuring you don’t miss critical events whether you’re on-site or remote. With configurable thresholds and alert schedules, you can tailor notifications to the needs of your operation—during business hours for customer areas, or continuously for restricted zones in vacant buildings or labs. This capability helps you protect inventory, maintain regulatory compliance, and respond rapidly to security incidents or safety breaches.
  • Versatile deployment for doors, walk-ins, and cabinets: The compact, unobtrusive design fits a wide range of entry points—from restaurant pantry doors and storage cabinets to server-room enclosures and cleanroom facilities. The magnetic open-closed mechanism provides reliable status signals with minimal false alerts, even in environments with routine vibrations or daily door activity. The sensors are suited for indoor use across multiple industries, and their flexible mounting options let you position the device exactly where you need it for optimal sensing. Whether you’re monitoring high-traffic doors or rare-access cabinets, the ALTA sensor scales to your security workflow.
  • Long battery life and maintenance-friendly operation: Powered by AA batteries, these sensors deliver extended, maintenance-friendly operation with replaceable power sources. The AA battery design eliminates wiring and reduces cost of ownership while delivering multi-year life depending on reporting frequency and environmental conditions. When battery replacement is needed, it’s quick and straightforward, keeping downtime to a minimum and ensuring continuous monitoring across all your sites. The result is a low-maintenance solution that saves time for facilities teams and security staff, so you can focus on what matters most—maintaining secure, compliant spaces.
  • Cloud-based monitoring, data security, and scalable reporting: All status data from the ALTA Open-Closed Sensor feeds into Monnit’s cloud-based platform, enabling centralized monitoring across one site or an entire portfolio of properties. You can review historical open/close events, create custom reports, and set automated workflows that align with your security policies. The system’s encryption and secure data transmission help protect sensitive information, while the scalable architecture accommodates growth—add more sensors at new locations without sacrificing performance. This makes it ideal for multi-site operators such as restaurants with multiple locations, networked labs, or facilities with remote offices and vacant buildings.

Technical Details of Monnit ALTA Wireless Open-Closed Sensors

  • Power source: AA battery powered, replaceable, designed for long service life with low-power wireless operation. This battery configuration reduces installation complexity and enables easy field maintenance without running wires or power outlets.
  • Sensor type: Open-Closed (reed switch) contact sensor that reports whether an attached door, cabinet, or enclosure is in the open or closed state. The reliable magnetic contact delivers clear, binary state data for accurate event logging.
  • Wireless technology: ALTA wireless protocol for secure, low-latency communication with the Monnit gateway and cloud platform. The system is designed for dependable performance in typical commercial environments, delivering timely alerts when status changes occur.
  • Communication range and security: Engineered to provide robust performance within typical facility layouts, with encrypted data transmission to protect sensitive security information and ensure privacy of event logs.
  • Monitoring framework: Integrated with Monnit Online (cloud-based) and gateways, enabling centralized management, real-time alerts, historical reporting, and scalable deployment across multiple locations. The solution supports multi-site monitoring and streamlined administrative controls for security teams.

how to install Monnit ALTA Wireless Open-Closed Sensors

  • Plan and position: Identify the entry points you need to monitor—doors, walk-ins, cabinets, or enclosures. Choose mounting locations that maximize sensor line-of-sight with the magnet, ensure the door or lid will travel past the sensor during typical operation, and minimize potential interference from metal obstructions or dense materials.
  • Mount the sensor and magnet: Attach the sensor body to a fixed frame or header near the door or cabinet, and place the magnet on the moving part (door leaf or door frame) with the appropriate gap for reliable sensing. Use screws or strong adhesive as needed, depending on the surface and environment. Ensure that the magnet aligns consistently with the sensor for stable state readings.
  • Insert AA battery and test power: Open the sensor housing, insert a fresh AA battery, and secure the cover. Power up the unit and verify the LED indicator (if present) confirms proper operation. This step ensures the sensor has power and is ready for pairing with the gateway.
  • Pair with the ALTA gateway: Access your Monnit ALTA gateway setup and initiate the pairing process for the new sensor. Follow on-screen prompts to register the device, assign it to a site and location, and enable alerts. The gateway will establish a secure channel with the sensor, beginning real-time data transmission to the Monnit cloud.
  • Configure alerts and test: In Monnit Online, set your alert rules (open/close events, frequency, and notification channels). Perform a test by opening and closing the monitored point to confirm the sensor reports accurately and the alerts are received via your preferred channels. Fine-tune sensitivity and reporting intervals as needed to balance timely updates with notification fatigue.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: How does the Monnit ALTA Wireless Open-Closed Sensor work?
A: The sensor uses a magnetic reed switch to detect open or closed states on doors, cabinets, or enclosures. When the state changes, the sensor transmits a secure, low-power signal to the ALTA gateway, which then feeds data to Monnit Online for real-time monitoring and alerting.
  • Q: What kind of alerts can I receive?
A: Alerts can be delivered via push notifications in the Monnit mobile app, email, or SMS, depending on your configuration. You can tailor alert rules by location, time of day, or specific doors, ensuring you’re notified only when it matters.
  • Q: How long do the batteries last?
A: Battery life varies with usage, reporting frequency, and environmental conditions, but the AA-powered design is intended to deliver long, maintenance-friendly service with easy battery replacement when needed.
  • Q: Can I monitor multiple doors or cabinets with one system?
A: Yes. The Monnit ALTA platform is designed for scalable deployment. You can install and manage a network of open-closed sensors across a single site or across many locations, and you can consolidate alerts and historical data into centralized dashboards.
  • Q: Is this sensor suitable for all environments?
A: The ALTA Open-Closed Sensor is built for indoor use in typical commercial environments including restaurants, laboratories, server rooms, and vacant facilities. For extreme environmental conditions or outdoor deployments, verify suitability with the sensor housing and mounting method and consider additional weatherproofing or protective enclosure if required.

Perfect for cool weather ...
Size: 12.5-13.5 Women/10.5-11.5 Men, Color: Light Grey Ragg Wool
I see a lot of complaints about fit and outdoor use of these ... I mean, these are slipper socks for indoor use! These are not shoes! If you want to walk outside in the snow, put on shoes or boots and then go outside ... I have two pair of these and they are great! I really like the real leather soles and foam insole, instead of the cheap plastic soles that are sold on most house shoes ... They were a little tight on my ankles when new, but they relaxed a bit and fit perfectly now. These are perfect for letting the TV watch you, sauntering, meandering, posing, consuming hot beverages, midnight strolls through the house, napping and all sorts of other indoor inactivity ... It has been a few years, and I must say, my Acorn's are still working strong. It is about 60 degrees inside, and I'm working in the garage on a cold concrete slab. The red stripes look especially special with my Adidas sweat pants.

Cozy but...
Size: Medium, Color: Light Grey Cotton Twist, Size: Medium, Color: Light Grey Cotton Twist
These slipper socks are nice but could be nicer. The sock portion does Not have a heel; they are tube socks with a footpad sewn on. This means there is a little tightness getting your foot past the turn and then you end up with a roll of sock over your upper foot. Once that is all made comfortable, you are good to go. I wear mine indoors and out for short trips to the patio and backyard. The sole material looks to be durable enough to last more than one season with this type of use. The footbed itself has just the right amount of padding: not so much that the foot can slid to the side and not so thin you can feel the joints in a tile floor ;-)

Size down. Thin soles are cold.
Size: Small, Color: Light Grey Ragg Wool
The ragg wool is warm and they seem well made. The foot sizing is very long. I'm a 7.5 to 8 always. The choice was 6-7 or 8-9. The 8-9 is more than 2 inches too long. I'm afraid they will cause a fall. Also know that the cushioning is not as pictured. It is only half the depth of the leather sides. When you stand on anything but carpets, you feel the cold floor. This is all due to the gravity on earth.

Best slippers, beware Sizes may be off.
Size: Medium, Color: Charcoal Ragg Wool
I LOVE these sock moccasins shoes or whatever they are. I purchased 2 pair in different colors and the upper sock material was a significantly different material in its weave density and stretchyness. (blue more thin and stretchy than grey). I wear blue ones indoors, and the grey ones stay in the car for long car trips. Sizing: both pair I bought say 7-9mens 9-10women -- In how they actually fit they are 9-10 mens. The soles are leather with a thin bit of soft foam, in winter I can walk around in snow in them and the cold doesnt get through. Not that you should walk in snow with them since the leather is like a suede so it gets gross. You can put them through the washing machine and it makes them look good as new.

Is this a joke slipper?
Size: Large, Color: Charcoal Ragg Wool
Bought size large (men’s 9-10) this past year for my husband for Christmas. These are not made to fit a human being unless it is a severely skinny person with very very long feet. The feet are too big for him but the ankles are so narrow he can’t put them on, and my husband is actually very lean, he teaches martial arts for a living 6 days a week. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a person in my entire life who simultaneously has long enough feet combined with skinny enough legs to fit these slippers. For a laugh we got our skinniest female friend to try them on and she could just barely squeeze her legs into them. I think she described it as “squeezing her skin off of her legs” or something like that, and then of course the feet were comically huge for her because she is so petite. We never got around to returning them and I just found them last night and remembered the whole incident. I tried to fit my forearm inside them but could not fit much past the wrist because they were too tight and I had a good laugh. I think I might cut them up and use the pieces to patch his old slippers that actually fit. To be fair we actually got a lot of laughs out of the product so it wasn’t a total waste. Buy them as a joke or save your money.
