Sodium Hydroxide Pellets (NaOH) is a strong base commonly used in tissue culture and various laboratory applications. Here are some specific uses of sodium hydroxide in tissue culture:
-
pH Adjustment: One of the primary uses of sodium hydroxide in tissue culture is to adjust the pH of culture media. The optimal pH is crucial for cell growth and metabolism. NaOH is used to raise the pH of the medium to the desired level, ensuring a suitable environment for cell cultures.
-
Sterilization: Sodium hydroxide - Pellets can be used in solution form in the sterilization of equipment and surfaces. Although not a primary sterilizing agent in tissue culture (where autoclaving is more common), NaOH solutions can be used to clean and decontaminate surfaces and glassware before use.
-
Preparation of Reagents: NaOH is often involved in the preparation of various reagents and solutions that are used in tissue culture. For example, it can be used to dissolve certain compounds or to prepare buffer solutions.
-
Detergent and Decontaminant: In some tissue culture protocols, sodium hydroxide is used as a detergent or decontaminant to remove biological residues and contaminants from culture vessels and other equipment.
-
Cell Lysis: Sodium hydroxide can be used in protocols requiring cell lysis, where cells are broken open to release their contents for further analysis. This is particularly useful in molecular biology applications related to tissue culture.
- DNA and RNA Extraction: In some DNA and RNA extraction protocols, NaOH is used to denature proteins and nucleic acids, assisting in the isolation of these molecules from cell cultures.
When using sodium hydroxide in tissue culture, it is important to handle it with care due to its caustic nature. Proper safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), are essential to prevent chemical burns and other hazards associated with NaOH.
Disclaimer: Results may vary depending on specific cell lines, specifications, and experimental conditions. Consult with cell culture specialists and review comprehensive literature to tailor its use to your specific research needs.

Beautiful sturdy cabinet.
This cabinet is beautiful. Paint was covering all the pieces. I put it together in about an hour by myself. Well made. The gold on black is so sharp. I actually have grey tones in the bath so I took a grey metallic sharpie and ran a line over the gold. Really turned out sharp. They even put black round stickers in the box to cover the screws. Wouldn’t definitely buy again!

Good product with one exception
I was happy with this product. Easy enough to put together. Provides great storage space. Unfortunately one of the screws it came with was not functional so I've been unable to install both door pulls.

Really nice for the price.
Wouldn’t expect the quality for the price in today’s over inflated world. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not made from rare woods and interesting hand made joinery, but as a cheap cabinet to go in my bathroom in my rental apartment to replace the one that delaminated from the bathroom steam, yeah it’s pretty good. It’s made of what looks like mdf but the finish is what got me, it’s like a heavy spray on lacquer or at least feels like it, which shouldn’t delaminate like a veneered panel. My only complaint is the stickers to cover the screw holes, they could be a bit thicker so they don’t get wrinkled.
