All of our mugs are hand built from textured soft slabs of clay, dipped in porcelain slip and hand painted on the exterior using vibrant underglazes.The line work is the result of carving through the decorative layers to the dark brown clay beneath. A technique known as sgraffito. This particular motif is further decorated after the first firing to add a bright white dot to the background prior to a dip in clear glaze. The interior impressions are accented with a tin white glaze that highlights the subtle surface texture.
