Skiing in Alaska often gets equated with big helicopter rides, and huge, untracked spines. And, while there’s plenty of that to be had up north, there’s also some incredible inbounds skiing. Alyeska serves up some of the best lift-accessed skiing anywhere in North America. It’s unique, in that the base area is only 250 feet above sea level. But, thanks to Alaska’s unique weather patterns, the resort averages over 600 inches of snowfall every year, so coverage isn’t a concern. Another side effect of its location is that Alyeska manages to have both some of the longest, and shortest ski days of any resort. After the spring equinox, Alyeska has the longest daylight hours of any ski resort in North America, with 16 hours of sunlight. That means that the resort can push back closing time till 6 PM in the spring. And Alyeska also offers night skiing under the lights till 9 PM during the darker winter.
