The Cisco Fibre Channel SFP+ is a high-performance, hot-swappable transceiver designed for use on the Cisco MDS 9000 Family of director switches and fabric devices. This compact, reliable module provides robust Fibre Channel connectivity essential for modern storage area networks (SANs). Built to integrate seamlessly with Cisco MDS 9000 deployments, it delivers scalable, low-latency connectivity that helps data centers meet today’s storage throughput requirements while maintaining uptime and simplicity in management. Whether you're expanding your SAN fabric, upgrading to higher speeds, or consolidating workloads, the Cisco SFP+ serves as a trusted building block for dependable, enterprise-grade storage networking.

  • Hot-swappable design minimizes maintenance windows and downtime. The SFP+ module is engineered for easy field replacement, letting you upgrade or service storage connections without powering down critical hosts or fabric components. This capability is especially valuable in dense data-center environments where uptime is paramount.
  • Optimized compatibility with Cisco MDS 9000 family ensures seamless integration across director switching modules and fabric switches. By aligning with Cisco’s fabric architecture, this transceiver helps administrators achieve consistent performance, predictable behavior, and streamlined management through familiar Cisco tools and workflows.
  • Professional-grade LC duplex optical interface delivers reliable, long-reach Fibre Channel connectivity. The LC connectors are designed for stable optical links within SAN environments, enabling clean signal transmission with low insertion loss and high return loss characteristics that support sustained data throughput.
  • Compact SFP+ form factor for dense deployments supports high-port-count SAN fabrics. The small footprint allows for aggressive port density on switch blades and directors, helping you maximize rack space and reduce cabling complexity while preserving airflow and cooling efficiency.
  • Proven Cisco reliability for storage networks backed by Cisco engineering and compatibility testing. This SFP+ transceiver is built to deliver consistent performance in diverse data-center conditions, ensuring stable connections for mission-critical storage workloads and reducing risk of link flaps or unexpected errors.

Technical Details of Cisco Fibre Channel SFP+

  • Product type: Fibre Channel SFP+ transceiver designed for Cisco storage networks
  • Compatibility: Cisco MDS 9000 family director switching modules and fabric switches
  • Form factor: SFP+ (Small Form-Factor Pluggable+) transceiver
  • Interface: LC duplex fiber optic connector for Fibre Channel links
  • Hot-swappable: Yes, enabling in-service upgrades and maintenance without powering down devices
  • Intended use: Designed to support Cisco SAN topologies and multi-path storage architectures within the MDS 9000 ecosystem

How to Install Cisco Fibre Channel SFP+ Transceiver

  • Plan maintenance according to your data-center procedures. If your environment supports hot-swapping, you may install the transceiver without powering down equipment; otherwise, follow standard power-down protocols.
  • Power down the host or ensure you are in a maintenance window appropriate for your SAN upgrade. Remove any dust covers on the SFP+ port and the fiber optic cables before handling.
  • Align the SFP+ transceiver with the corresponding port on the Cisco MDS 9000 director or fabric switch. Gently insert the module into the port until it seats firmly with a tactile click.
  • Attach the Fibre Channel fiber cables to the LC duplex connectors on the transceiver, ensuring correct polarity and secure fiber routing to prevent strain or bending that could impact signal integrity.
  • Power up the device (if required) and verify the link status through the switch management interface. Confirm that the port is up, and monitor for any alarms or discrepancies in the fabric logs.

Almost Perfect
If you’ve ever seen these things, the foldable ones are just as good as the standard ones. I just wish when you folded it up there was a way to lock it into that position. When you unfold it to play, you lock it into place with the orange locking slide so it doesn’t fold up on you. But when you’re done playing and fold it up, there’s no way to lock it into that position, it can keep unfolding if you carry it around with you, plus the orange locking slide keeps sliding up and down. It’s not a huge deal, but they could’ve made it better.

Perfect for active dogs
This is a must-have if your dog loves to fetch. It throws the ball far with very little effort and keeps your hands clean—no more slobbery chuckit balls. Lightweight, durable, and makes playtime much more fun (and less tiring for me!).

Way better than the M size for us
Like most people that have dogs I first went with the M size or Tennis ball size (about 2.5") chuckit for my 65-70 lbs Lab. After having that for a while and my dogs' evolution from liking to chase the ball to wanting to catch it, I started seeing how the M size could cause some life threating problems for my pup. I was on the fence for several weeks when I came across this option that included a 3" ultra ball as well as a 3" fuzzy tennis ball like ball. These balls can fly so much farther with less effort and my furry friend seeming to like them more than the 2.5 inch. It also seems to fit their mouth better allowing them to enjoy 'the game' (you lost by the way) much more. If you have a larger dog or your dog has a big mouth, please trust me when I say skip the 2.5" M size balls. You and your dog will haves much more fun with this 3" size
