About the artwork

During his long and prolific career Michael Smither has found continuing inspiration in his immediate environment. This has resulted in a large body of work that is synonymous with the New Zealand landscape and culture.
2017 film Episode 8 by City Associate films - Michael Smither; The Next Ten Years. Light through the Trees references Michael's environmental interest of his coastline and the development through a series of oil paintings and calligraphic's as he studies the eastern pohutukawa tree, near his home at Otama Beach on the Coromandel Peninsula.
