The Cousins X Source Skateboard Deck is a collaborative effort between The Source and Cousins Skateboard Community, an organization dedicated to building grassroots programs alongside indigenous communities within Treaty 7. The art for the board was created by Sikapinakki Low Horn, an Artist from the Siksika First Nation.
Artist Description:
“This graphic includes Blackfoot representations of the land, culture, and traditions of the Cousins Skateboard Community. The design stems from the Siksika First Nation, utilizing the buffalo, the arrows, and tipi designs in the Siksika logo that are used by the Nation.
There is the arrow, and the buffalo. The Buffalo is present as it was traditionally important to the Blackfoot people, using all aspects of the animal to feed and clothe everyone. The arrows represent the seven scared societies that the Blackfoot people still take part in every summer. The symbol between the two Cousins feathers represents the Nitsitapii, the original people of the land.
The edges that encapsulate the skateboard deck are traditionally found on the bottoms of Blackfoot tipi. In the two specific designs, one represents the mountains, and the other represents the prairies. Inside the two are small white circles that are meant to be the white puff balls that form in the spring. Both designs are on the edges to show Cousins Skateboarding Community spans from the Mountains to the Prairies.”

All proceeds from the Cousins X Source Skateboard Deck go towards supplying skateboard equipment for Cousins Skateboard Community Youth Programs.
