Classic tonewoods and quality craftsmanship
D’Angelico crafts each Excel EXL-1 hollowbody from maple and spruce, just like John D’Angelico did in the early 20th century. This guitar’s laminate spruce top and laminate maple back and sides team up to deliver excellent response and old-school jazzbox tone. In addition, the EXL-1 comes with a floating ebony bridge and classic stairstep tailpiece.
Seymour Duncan 59 humbucker
This version of the EXL-1 is equipped with a Seymour Duncan 59 humbucker in the neck position. The 59 is well-loved guitar players for its versatile nature. It accurately captures the tone and response of the iconic PAF pickups from the 20th century. You’ll love the slightly scooped midrange and squeal-free performance. Thanks to the Seymour Duncan 59 pickup, your EXL-1 hollowbody electric guitar can tackle rock, blues, and jazz with equal success.
Super-playable neck
Your fingers will fall in love with the Excel EXL-1 as soon as you start fretting notes. The 3-piece neck is made from two pieces of maple sandwiching a single walnut ply. And it plays like a dream. D’Angelico carves the neck into a comfortable “C”-shaped profile, which offers a stable, hand-filling feel. Plus, the neck is topped by a 12-inch radius ebony fingerboard studded with 22 easy-playing frets.
