The Brother RuggedJet RJ4040 is built for workers who move fast and demand reliability in challenging environments. This monochrome, direct thermal printer blends rugged durability with portable convenience, enabling fast receipt and label printing wherever your workflow takes you. With a print speed up to 5 inches per second, IP54 certification, and a sturdy 6-foot drop protection rating, the RJ4040 is purpose-built for warehouses, field service, retail backrooms, and on-site labeling tasks. Its versatile media capabilities mean you can switch between receipts and labels without changing devices, making it an all-in-one solution for daily operations. In the field or on the loading dock, this printer stays on task with long-lasting battery life, multiple connectivity options, and a design that can handle the bumps and grime of real-world work. Whether you’re printing shipping labels, itemized POS receipts, or asset tags, the RJ4040 delivers crisp, legible output in a compact footprint that fits on a belt, in a bag, or inside a service vehicle. The device’s monochrome output keeps costs down and ensures quick, high-contrast prints that are easy to read at a glance, which is essential for efficient inventory control and customer service. If you need a single device that can handle both label and receipt tasks, with rugged reliability and flexible connectivity, the Brother RuggedJet RJ4040 stands out as a top choice in professional mobile printing.

  • Rugged, portable design for on-the-go printing: built to withstand demanding environments, the RJ4040 is compact enough to carry through warehouses and service sites while delivering dependable performance. Its resilient chassis protects essential components, allowing you to print in the trenches where most printers falter. This is the kind of device that keeps your workflow moving without slowing you down, even when you’re dealing with dust, dirt, or sudden drops. The RJ4040’s ergonomic form factor supports handheld use or easy mounting in small workspaces, making it an ideal companion for technicians, merchandisers, and logistics staff who need reliable print capability at the point of use.
  • Fast direct thermal printing up to 5 inches per second: time is money in busy operations, and the RJ4040’s speed ensures you don’t bottleneck lines or service calls. Direct thermal technology means no ink or toner to manage, reducing maintenance and consumable costs. Quick print throughput helps you generate receipts for customers and labels for parcels, pallets, or asset tracking in seconds. Crisp, high-contrast monochrome output enhances readability, improving accuracy in inventory checks and reducing the chance of misreads during audits or scans.
  • Versatile media support for receipts and labels up to 4 inches wide: switch between media types without swapping devices. The RJ4040 handles common label formats and POS receipts, helping you consolidate equipment and simplify operations. This flexibility is particularly valuable in retail backrooms, courier hubs, and field service, where you might need to issue a receipt to a customer one moment and print a shipping label the next. The smooth media path and reliable feed system minimize jams and misfeeds, even with heavier label stock.
  • Comprehensive connectivity: USB, Serial, and Wireless LAN with battery included: stay connected to laptops, tablets, or mobile devices across different work scenarios. USB and Serial interfaces provide compatibility with a wide range of legacy systems, while Wireless LAN enables seamless wireless printing from modern devices and cloud-based workflows. The built-in battery keeps the RJ4040 operational away from power outlets, supporting multi-shift work and remote job sites. With all these options, you can integrate mobile printing into existing IT ecosystems without disruptive changes.
  • Certified ruggedness: IP54 protection and 6 ft drop performance: designed to endure dust, moisture exposure, and occasional accidental drops, the RJ4040 is a dependable choice for environments like warehouses, delivery yards, and outdoor job sites. The IP54 rating ensures durability against water and dust ingress, while the 6-foot drop tolerance minimizes downtime from everyday accidents. These rugged features translate into higher uptime, lower maintenance costs, and greater confidence in printing during critical operations.

how to install Brother RuggedJet RJ4040

Setting up the RJ4040 is straightforward and designed to get you printing quickly. Start by charging the built-in battery fully to ensure maximum uptime during field tasks. Once charged, power on the printer and connect it to your preferred device using USB or establish a wireless link through your local network. Install the appropriate drivers or configure the printer in your operating system’s print settings to recognize the RJ4040 as a new printer. If you plan to print from mobile devices or tablets, enable Wireless LAN on the printer and connect to the same network as your device. Configure the media settings first—specify maximum print width (up to 4 inches) and select the correct label stock or receipt stock in the driver settings to ensure proper feed and alignment. Calibrate the media sensor as needed to prevent misfeeds and ensure smooth operation with varying label thicknesses. Finally, perform a test print to verify alignment, print quality, and feed reliability, adjusting darkness and speed if required to achieve optimal results in your environment. Routine maintenance is simple: keep the print head clean, use compatible media, and replace any worn components promptly to maintain performance and longevity.

There All Along
Format: Kindle
It all came about on a recent trip to Mexico after my wife of ten years forwarded an article about Dr Kaminski’s discovery of a new personality type. Interested, I dove in to find everything that I read resonated deeply. I looked up the book and bought the Kindle version and it’s been un-put-down able since. My life hasn’t been without a struggle here and there. The short version is that I put myself through Boise State in their accounting program, did well, and then graduated in ‘89. Don’t laugh, my parents thought it would be good if there was an accountant out there with “personality.” It was a bad idea but I didn’t want to do something beneath me like paint houses or be a mechanic. So I gave in. There was an immediate price to pay. My long time girlfriend broke up with me because she wanted us to be more and I felt I had to focus on school and work. I had decent grades despite my shattered heart and my professors were fairly supportive of me. I received an attractive offer to work in a regional firm but it turned out I not only didn’t like the work but even worse, I couldn’t do it. In practice nothing made sense. Balance sheets wouldn’t balance. Income statements wouldn’t reconcile with sales and closing the books was hell. It all seemed so unlike the problems in my textbooks. So I continued working in the grocery store for a few more years. Then in 1992, I met a girl, you know “the one.” Because she was pretty and actually returned my call, I had to have her like she was a possession. So we dated and got married and I sat for and passed the CPA exam and went on to work as an auditor for the State of Idaho which is a lot of fact checking and report writing. In true fashion I tired of the politics and mostly just having a boss. Time marched on. We had kids. She knew she’d found her sucker. I quit my job, opened a private practice specializing in bookkeeping and taxes, neither of which I was very good at. I was good at trying to keep my infinitely narcissistic wife happy keeping up with the Joneses and all the appearances. Through utterly pathetically and foolish means. I got in over my head and embezzled from a client which was discovered although I was never prosecuted, which I correctly predicted. So it’s complicated and I always wondered why I would do such a thing. The answer is elusive, and obviously it was an unbelievably stupid thing to do but I feel I did it either as a cry for help or because I thought my ex wife was worth doing something so wrong. I think I wanted to get caught so I could get my life right at some point. I’ve gone with the cry for help answer because no one is worth stealing for. After $75,000 in child support (which was artificially high due basically to what amounted to extortion from my lovely ex wife - she found out I embezzled to hang on to her then weaponized it against me) and repaying the client I stole from, I started working as a solo painting contractor and never looked back. Life got good for me after I straightened out and became who I am. My second wife believed in me and supported me unconditionally. We’re retired now and are moving to Mexico this summer. 2026 I’m now 61, took the test, my score 227/280. Undeniably an Otrovert.

Life changing and immensely comforting
Format: Kindle
A well written and descriptive book on a topic that I had never seen before but described me to a T. This book lead to great clarity about why I feel the way I do, how to embrace the positives, and best of all, how to navigate a world where I am different from most through peace and empowerment. An excellent read even if these traits don't apply to you, as understanding the inner workings of others and allowing each to be his/her own person is where we learn to live in harmony. Excellent book.

Not a new personality type -- one of the 16 Myers Briggs types
Format: Kindle
The author claims to have identified a personality type that differs from the 16 types identified in the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Among those 16 MBTI types, 8 are extraverts and 8 are introverts. The author refers to those 8 introvert types as a single personality category, and then he tries to differentiate them from the type he proposes: the Otrovert. However, his description of the Otrovert is a detailed, accurate description of one of the 8 Myers Briggs introvert types: the INTJ. So he has not identified a new personality type; he has simply isolated one of the 16 MBTI types and elaborated on it. He does an excellent job of explaining the nuances of the INTJ personality, but he has not identified something new. I would have rated this book 5 stars if it had been presented as a closer look at the INTJ type. The book "Type Talk" by Kroeger and Theusen is the preeminent authority on the MBTI, written by people who qualify instructors to administer the MBTI instrument--find it on Amazon at this link: https://www.amazon.com/Type-Talk-Personality-Types-Determine/dp/0440507049/ref=sr_1_1?
