In the left foreground a large ghada (Haloxylon persicum Bunge) tree stands at the top of a low slope. Nearby in the right foreground a young man leans on a camel stick with one arm and holds a peregrine falcon on a mangalah (cuff) on his other arm. The young man wears a patterned ghutra (headscarf) topped with an 'agal (head rope) and a thobe (long shirt) cinched with a cartridge belt. The falcon wears a leather hood and perches on the mangalah in profile, facing towards the left. In the background large ghada trees grow along the slope. In the far centre distance tufts of qassis (sedge) grow across a vast expanse of flat sand sitting below the distant mountain of Jebel Hafeet (Jabal Hafit). This image was taken between December 20, 1948, and January 27, 1949, during which time Wilfred Thesiger stayed with Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in Al Ain and joined him on a number of hunting excursions.
