In Maps of Misterra, you take on the role of explorers charting a mystical, uncharted island. Your mission is to explore the island, fulfill your personal and hidden objectives, and create an accurate map to earn the most points.

To start, place the central board representing the island on the table, and provide each player with a personal map to record their discoveries. On each turn, players can choose two actions from the following options:

• Move their explorer pawn on the central board.
• Discover new terrains adjacent to their explorer pawn by drawing one of four random tiles.
• Claim control of specific areas.

Terrain types on the central island must be explored twice before they are validated, meaning unvalidated terrains can shift—"You thought you saw grass? You were mistaken." This can cause discrepancies between the central board and your personal map.
