Each tile depicts cities, roads, monasteries, or fields, and as the game progresses, a dynamic board takes shape. Players strategically place their followers on features to score points as they get completed. The player with the most skillful tile placements and followers' deployment will emerge as the winner.

In Carcassonne, followers take on different roles based on the tiles they occupy, such as knights, monks, farmers, or thieves. Each role earns points differently, requiring careful planning to maximize your followers' potential. For instance, thieves placed on roads score one point for each tile forming the road, while monks placed in cloisters score nine points when the last of the nine surrounding tiles is placed. Followers are limited, and once placed, they can't be used until the feature they're on is completed. You'll need to strategize whether to opt for quick scores with more available followers or aim for higher points that commit followers in the long term.

As the map expands, players have opportunities to disrupt each other's plans. With only one follower allowed on any feature at a time, clever placement of tiles and followers can thwart opponents and even snatch away their points. Whether blocking city growth or connecting with an opponent's road for shared points, Carcassonne provides numerous ways to outwit and outmaneuver your rivals.
