SVS SB-1000 Classic - Sealed Box Home SubwooferSB 1000 Small subwoofer cabinets are not conducive to big bass, which presented a challenge for SVS engineers when designing the SB 1000 and its compact 13x13x13 inch enclosure. Refusing to sacrifice performance for size, SVS engineers threw out preconceived notions and designed a subwoofer with massive output and remarkable low frequency extension, especially relative to its size and price. Small subwoofer cabinets are not conducive to big bass, which presented a challenge for SVS engineers when designing the SB-1000 and its compact 13x13x13-inch enclosure. Refusing to sacrifice performance for size, SVS engineers threw out preconceived notions and designed a subwoofer with massive output and remarkable low frequency extension, especially relative to its size and price. All without sacrificing accuracy, detail, and musicality.

Quick Specs

  • Driver | 12"
  • Amplifier | 300 watts RMS (720 watts peak)
  • Freq. Response | 24-260 Hz ±3dB
  • Dimension | 13.5" (H) 13" (W) 14" (D)

At first glance, it’s easy to underestimate the impact of the SB-1000 subwoofer based on size alone. But when it erupts to life with deep and hard-hitting bass, there’s no mistaking it’s a bona fide, high performance subwoofer.

Commanding 12-inch SVS High-Excursion Driver

SVS packed the compact SB-1000 subwoofer with a front-firing 12-inch driver, massive dual ferrite magnets and FEA-optimized internal motor technology for high output with extremely low distortion. The lightweight cone material of the long-stroke driver reproduces subtle audio tones and massive low frequency impact with lifelike realism. Durable rubber surrounds ensure long-lasting performance, even when the subwoofer is pushed to its performance limits for extended periods of time. Authoritative and musical, the SB-1000 a perfect option for serious music or home theater lovers.

Powerful and Sophisticated Sledge STA-300D Amplifier

Conservatively rated at 300 watts RMS, 700+ watts peak power, the Sledge STA-300D amplifier maintains precise control of the subwoofer at all drive levels so you can push to reference volumes without distortion. A sophisticated DSP is perfectly tuned to the unique driver and cabinet configuration and its equalization curve is optimized for enhanced transient response and room gain, making the subwoofer sound much bigger than its size. The SB-1000’s ability to start and stop on a dime and stay true to the source material is a performance hallmark normally reserved for much more expensive subwoofers. The advanced DSP engine also allows for fine tuning of audio playback and easy set-up and integration into any home theater or stereo system.

SB-1000 Awarded "Best Subwoofer for Small Spaces" by Wirecutter

"Measuring 13½ by 13 by 14⅝ inches (HWD), it’s compact enough to hide under many end tables, yet this 12-inch subwoofer actually exceeds the performance of some larger subs we tested. Its punchy, well-defined sound makes it better for music than for action movies, but it’ll do a respectable job with anything you play through it."

Sonically Inert and Rigidly Braced Cabinet

Thermal management is critical when dealing with such a powerful amplifier and motor in a compact sealed cabinet, so SVS implemented a unique vented pole piece and efficient high-power voice coil to keep the SB-1000 subwoofer cool without impacting performance or adding noise. The cabinet is rigidly braced and sonically inert so the bass you hear is always effortless and pure, even at the highest drive levels.

Weighing in at an easily movable 27 lbs, the SB-1000 is SVS’s lightest and smallest subwoofer, making its 24Hz to 260Hz (+/- 3dB) frequency response all the more impressive.

Press Reviews

Buying Guides reviews SB-1000 Subwoofer

“It's so crisp, precise and agile that, again, I've never heard anything like it before…Reproducing frequencies so deep that it goes all the way to 24hz with astonishing forcefulness and all without blinking an eye.”

Home Theater Hobbyist Reviews the PB-1000 and SB-1000 Subwoofers

“Excellent output and deep extension but also great balance and extremely detailed bass. Both can play music and movies and you’ll have an enjoyable experience regardless. And while there are advantages to each subwoofer, the impressive designs deliver the best of both ported and sealed world’s with both models.”

HT Hobbyist (YouTube) Reviews the SB-1000 Subwoofer

“Able to energize my room and punch me in the chest, which was surprising for such a compact sub. It’s very accurate, very articulate and sounds incredible for music. Absolutely beautiful sound.”

CNET Names SB-1000 Best Subwoofer Under $500

“I've used a lot of subwoofers in my time, but nothing has so far matched SVS in terms of value for money. I use the larger SB-4000 as part of the CNET test system, but the SB-1000 is a great sub. It's compact and offers satisfyingly deep bass for both movies and music. It makes a great companion to single soundbars with a sub out connection too.”

The Pixelated Gamer Reviews the SB-1000

"The SVS SB-1000 is an absolute workhorse and decimates the competition anywhere near its $500 price tag. Its compact size allows it to be placed just about anywhere, perfect for small to medium sized rooms. The sealed design and advanced DSP on-board delivers outstanding responsiveness, where each bass hit from the durable 12″ driver is shockingly fast and clean. This model shines in precision and clarity, delivering a wonderfully balanced experience. As it stands, the SB-1000 sub is the undisputed king at its price point and simply a phenomenal performer."

HiFi Class (Poland) gives SB-1000 Five Stars

“Massive, springy and strong bass from a small compact box. Effective and precise sound in a multi-channel configuration. It will also well complement the sound in the lowest tones of the classic stereo systems. Difficult to upset even when I forced it to work at higher than average volume levels - the bass was always played with proper control, without compression or audible distortions. Boasts performance I would expect from much more expensive constructions.”

Gadgetreview.com - James Pikover Reviews the SB-1000

"The SVS SB-1000 is a powerful and price-conscience subwoofer to give your entertainment center the bass it doesn’t just need, but that it deserves… I can’t recommend the SB-1000 enough."

Best cabin filter I've ever seen
This is the most complex and over-engineered cabin air filter I have ever seen, and I mean that in a good way! The overall shell is a hard plastic, and inside it are two basic parts; the filter (HEPA quality) and the loose fill activated charcoal. The filter media appears to be operating room quality, and if I were to guess, I would say it's like a MERV 14 or greater. The pleats are plentiful, and the spacing of the pleats are perfect, as well as the attachment of the media to the filter frame. The charcoal is a loose style fill, and it fits between the back of the filter media and the filter screen on the very back. This must have 5 times the amount of charcoal compared to the charcoal infused media you can get from many suppliers. The frame fits perfect in my 4runner, and it is hard plastic with good gasket material to further help the effectiveness of the media. All in all, this is an incredibly engineered filter, and if you're the type that wants nothing but the best for your vehicle, you've come to the right place by choosing this one. It is pricey, at $20 for one filter at the time of writing this review, but this is a textbook case of "you get what you pay for." I am going to start only buying these from now on, as they are the best quality and construction filter I have seen, and I highly recommend this filter!

A Simple, Affordable Cabin Filter That Does the Job
I have a mechanic I really trust, which is no small thing these days. The trade off is that he charges a little more for routine services like oil changes, and those visits always include a full vehicle inspection. To manage the cost, I make a point of handling the easy maintenance items myself so he does not feel the need to replace them with higher priced OEM parts. Cabin air filters fall squarely into that category. It takes me about two minutes to replace one, and doing it myself typically saves around fifty dollars. That was the motivation behind picking up this filter for my Toyota Sienna. Right out of the package it fit perfectly. The size is exact, which is important since cabin filters need a snug frame to work properly. There is a clear airflow direction arrow printed on the side, which is one of the two key things I always look for. Without that, it becomes guesswork and you risk installing the filter backward. With the arrow in place, installation is a quick slide and close operation. Functionally, cabin filters are hard to evaluate in real time. You do not get a dramatic change the moment you swap them out. What I rely on instead is whether they fit correctly, whether they load evenly over time and whether they avoid shedding material as they age. Based on construction and feel, this one meets those expectations. It is pleated well and the frame holds its shape. All signs point to it filtering properly, which is the baseline requirement. Because cabin filters need changing fairly often, it never makes sense to overspend on OEM versions unless you have a specific airflow sensitivity or unique environmental need. This filter costs far less and performs the key functions just as well for general use. In my Southern California environment, where dust and pollen appear regularly, I prefer to replace filters on the more frequent side, which makes the lower cost even more practical. The simplicity of the whole process is what I appreciate most. No tools, no struggle, no surprises. The filter pops in cleanly, the compartment closes and the job is done. When paired with the peace of mind of not paying dealership pricing for such a simple part, it becomes an easy product to recommend. A dependable, properly fitting cabin filter at a very reasonable price. Four stars.

So premium I can't even test the quality
edit- after about six weeks of driving through various conditions I can say that the air quality this filter produces is excellent., removing all smoggy odor. There is a minor soapy smell that is not offensive, just unusual. So I am very pleased with this item. original review- This really seems like a premium upgrade compared to the budget filters I normally buy. Unfortunately I live in a hot and dry climate (no humidity buildup to cause musty or sour odors and AC always running which dries the air also) and I do not smoke so I never have any odor problems in my vehicle to test the charcoal feature with. I also am not prone to dust allergies so I don't know how helpful the HEPA feature is. If I get stuck in traffic in a smoggy area or behind an especially smoggy vehicle I will switch to fresh air mode to learn if the charcoal feature helps and update this review. There is no paperwork in the box or arrows printed on the filter to determine which way to insert it. I am assuming the airflow path is downward and should pass through the paper side first, so I installed the paper side up.

      It's a fit
This was a good fit for my 2010 Camry. Way nicer than the air filter I had in there before. I don't know what all those charcoal things do but it makes me feel like my car will have better air than the rest of of life. All the packaging and labels were Chinese, so I had to take my best guess about which way the air was supposed to flow. Other than that it was pretty easy to install. Just stick it in the hole. Seems to work well, I haven't noticed any new noises. Seems like a higher end filter. Hopefully it lasts the ten years before I change it next

      Very Different, But Works Well
This is built much different than the others. It has a foam seal around the edges. The filter portion is standard, but the carbon activated material is a setoff beads suspended between a screen a honeycomb structure. There is air freshener built-in to help with the smell in the car. Fits well in my 2015 RAV4. Just as easy to install as any other filter. The price is on the high side so with this one I am hoping to get at least one year of use from it.
