This traditional-looking chess set combines our new Highgrove ebonised Staunton chessmen with a classic walnut deluxe chessboard.

The attention to detail is staggering. The bases are wide for a 7.6cm set, and they sweep up elegantly to the shanks. The finish is achieved by multiple stages of hand polishing using only natural polishes and waxes.

The set is very generously weighted for its size, and each piece features a resilient green baize base which not only protects the board surface but also allows the pieces to glide nicely. The chessboard is constructed using European walnut and maple veneers, beautifully framed by a thin inlaid band of ebony, which complements the ebonised chess pieces well.

Finally, the set includes a compact burl wood chess piece case that provides a way of stowing the chess pieces when not needed. A wonderful traditional Staunton set that cannot fail to impress.
