About This Piece

An exceptional antique French sterling silver timbale dating to the 18th century. Finely worked in a classical tulip form, the vessel is adorned with a swag motif encircling the body and a beaded frieze above the round, domed foot — demonstrating the refined decorative vocabulary characteristic of French silversmithing of the period.

The timbale bears engraved initials "LP" to one side, likely indicating an original owner or family association, adding a layer of historical interest and provenance. The restrained ornamentation and balanced proportions reflect the sophistication and technical mastery of French silver in the 18th century.

"Timbale" is the French term for a stemless goblet or tumbler used for wine and other drinks.
