Encircling the shamrock is the poignant engraving “Pretoria St Patricks Day 1903” all completed by hand.
Dated to the Edwardian period, the year 1903 places this piece in a fascinating historical moment — just after the end of the Second Boer War — making the Pretoria inscription particularly significant.
