Herbert arrived in Auroville in 1983 and shortly after he involved himself in green work and farming. He started Siddhartha Farm in 1996 which is part of an organic farm network in Auroville. The farm is family-managed and is growing and processing organic food in an ethical, regenerative, and natural way, aiming towards Auroville's food self-sufficiency.
