The Mission 778X is a modern take on a classic Mission amplifier, blending vintage style touches with the features audiophiles expect today. Designed for music lovers who want elegance, flexibility and quality in a compact form, it makes an excellent centrepiece for both serious hi-fi setups and more modest systems.

Despite its half-width chassis, the 778X packs plenty of punch: 45 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 65 watts into 4 ohms. Whether driving medium-sized speakers in a living room or a smaller stand-mount pair in a study, it delivers clean, dynamic sound without strain. Its signal path is refined, with careful attention to distortion, noise floor, and component quality.

For digital lovers, it includes a high-performance ESS Sabre32 DAC, capable of decoding up to 384 kHz PCM and DSD256 via USB, with optical and coaxial inputs up to 192 kHz. Analogue sources are equally well supported: twin RCA line inputs, a dedicated MM (moving magnet) phono stage with low noise, and a front-panel high-drive headphone amplifier make it versatile for turntables, digital streamers, tablets or headphones alike.

Connectivity is generous: USB-B, coaxial, optical, Bluetooth (aptX/AAC), analogue inputs, and useful outputs such as pre-out, meaning you can expand to external power amps or add other gear in time. Large tactile control knobs, LED level indicators, and a well-finished metal case complete the package, adding to the sense of quality and usability.
