An exceptionally touching Victorian mourning ring, dating to 1863, created to honour the life of Catherine Lucretia Anna Smythe. This beautifully preserved piece combines exquisite craftsmanship with deeply personal symbolism, making it a rare survivor of 19th century sentimental jewellery.

At the centre of the ring is an elegant oval panel set with a diamond forget-me-not flower. The forget-me-not was one of the most meaningful motifs of the Victorian era, symbolising remembrance, eternal love, and the plea to never be forgotten. A particularly poignant choice for mourning jewellery. The delicately set diamonds catch the light softly, giving the flower a lively, living presence.

The shoulders of the ring are adorned with scrolling foliate engraving, a classic Victorian design element representing continuity, life, and devotion. Traces of original black enamel remain, once a powerful visual symbol of mourning and loss, adding depth and authenticity to the piece.

Inside the band is a beautifully engraved dedication:

“C L A Smythe Obt 22 Dec. 1862 AEt 63”

This inscription commemorates Catherine Lucretia Anna Smythe (1799–1862), whose life we have been able to trace through historical records. Catherine was living in Plymouth, Devon, and appears in the 1861 census residing with her brother, Robert James Tago, along with household staff suggesting a household of comfortable standing. Ten years earlier, she had been living with her husband and four children, making this later change in circumstances particularly poignant.

Catherine married John Smythe in 1846. John was Irish born and is believed to have been an Anglican clergyman, with records referring to his role as having the “cure of souls.” The couple’s younger children were born in Ireland, further supporting this connection. John predeceased Catherine, dying in 1855, leaving her widowed for several years before her own death.

This ring stands not only as a beautifully crafted example of Victorian mourning jewellery, but also as a tangible link to a real woman, her family, and her story. The combination of personal inscription, symbolic imagery, and documented provenance makes this an especially meaningful piece.

A moving and elegant survivor from the mid-19th century. Rich in history, sentiment, and quiet beauty.

My dogs favorite!
My dogs love these! They will play all day if you'd let them, these balls are their favorites. I use the chuck-it handle and they get tons of exercise in the big yard!

The Dog LOVES IT!
I bought this for my ex-wife's Pitbull. He is an aggressive chewer and usually destroys any toy I buy him. But not this one! The ball is small enough and pliable that it gives when he chomps on it. He loves this ball and seems to be his favorite toy. Thank you for making a product that he likes and can't destroy!

My Golden Retriever’s favorite
We’ve owned lots of toys and balls. This specific version (in blue) has been her absolute favorite. She’s about 72lbs and chews on this thing regularly with no visible damage. We actually own about 6 of them because they have a tendency to go missing underneath furniture and in the yard. We have two of the orange colored ones but she doesn’t like those nearly as much which I assume is because the blue is easier to see in the grass. Other than that…They bounce really well and also whistle a little when you throw them hard enough. I hope they never stop making these.

doesn't whistle as loud as other chuckit balls I've seen, but a good ball.
makes some noise, but I've seen (and played with) others at the dog park that whistle much louder than the 1 I got. all Chuckit balls... so, just this one I'm betting. but it flys good and the dog loves to chase it. he chews it a fair bit as well and the ball has not taken much damage from him (lab mix) or others that have had a go at it. I'll likely buy another at some point ... just wish it was a little louder when flying.

Blue ball, my dog likes blue.
Just a ball right? Evidently not! My dog won’t chase an orange chuck it ball or the glow in the dark ball- only the blue one 🤷🏼‍♀️
