Fitting and handling
Allow the board to acclimatise inside the building for at least 24 hours before fixing, keeping it flat and off the floor to prevent any moisture uptake from the subfloor. Most installers fix using a full-coverage instant-grab adhesive applied to the reveal, with mechanical fixings through the back edge where additional support is needed. Once fitted, apply one or two coats of water-based or oil-based interior paint directly over the factory primer, paying attention to the underside and any cut ends to seal the board fully.
FAQ
Is this window board suitable for use in a kitchen or bathroom?
Yes. It is made from moisture resistant MDF, which resists the swelling and warping that can affect solid timber in humid rooms. It is not waterproof, however, so all cut ends and the underside should be sealed with paint or primer before installation.
Can I cut this window board down to a shorter length on site?
Yes. Moisture resistant MDF cuts cleanly with a circular saw, jigsaw, or hand saw. After cutting, seal the exposed end grain with a coat of primer before fitting to maintain the board's resistance to moisture.
Does this board need sanding before painting?
Light sanding with 180-grit paper will improve adhesion and remove any minor surface marks from transit. Wipe away dust before applying your chosen top coat. No additional primer should be needed on the flat faces, though cut ends must be primed.
