Musallim bin Al Kamam, a sheikh of the Musaifar lineage of Rashid Bedouin, stands on a stretch of wind-rippled sand near the lip of a depression, facing into the right distance. He holds a rifle, a camel stick and the head rope of Wilfred Thesiger's thoroughbred Omani camel, which is standing behind him. The camel also faces towards the right, and it is saddled with a dark sheepskin and carries bags and a rifle. Behind them low rolling dunes dotted with scattered vegetation fill the background into the distance below a cloudless sky. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
