These small catfish are cherished for their vibrant colors and active nature, making them a delightful addition to any community aquarium. They typically grow to about 2.5 inches in length.
Origin: Native to South America, specifically the waterways of Brazil, Corydoras Melanotaenia thrive in soft, slightly acidic water. They are found in slow-moving rivers and streams with sandy or muddy substrates.
Feeding: Omnivorous by nature, these catfish are not picky eaters. They readily accept a varied diet that includes high-quality sinking pellets, flakes, frozen or live foods like bloodworms, and occasional vegetable matter. Ensure to provide food that reaches the bottom of the tank, as they are bottom feeders.
Tank Mates: Ideal for community tanks, they get along well with other peaceful fish. Good companions include small tetras, rasboras, and other non-aggressive species. Avoid keeping them with large or aggressive fish that may view them as prey.
Aggression: Corydoras Melanotaenia are known for their peaceful temperament. They rarely show aggression towards other tank mates and prefer to be in groups, often seen shoaling together.
Experience Level: Suitable for both beginners and experienced aquarists. They are hardy and relatively easy to care for, making them a great choice for those new to fishkeeping.
